My mind immediately went to Keena Young after Kendrick Perkins decided he wasn't coming. Did Keena actually sign, or was he a verbal?
He signed. His family actually had the UHaul packed and was ready to drive him to Memphis and Barbee basically told him, "You can still come if you want, but you probably won't ever see the court."
Damn, that was cold. Looking at his stats from BYU, he would've been a good addition from '04 to '07.

Multiple sources say if Penny comes to Memphis we would get.
-5* Anfernee Simmons
-5* Shareef O’Neal
-4* Tyler Harris
-4* Talen Horton-Tucker (Iowa St. signee)
Simons is a wild card. Have seen him as high as 7th in one ranking and another barely has him in the top 100. Something is not kosher with that much of a difference in a player's rankings.
Little more than a month till signing period starts so Bowen needs to make a move very quickly.

Yeah, I recall Cal pushed Taggart out even when he wasn't the coach. Pastner was missing one key piece to making the tourney his first season and that was Shawn Taggart.
Yep. If we had Taggart and if Latavious Williams came (and was eligible), that was no doubt an NCAA squad. Hell, almost made it anyway.
First round loss in CUSA tournament by 1 to Houston cost us NCAA. Was 2 seed in tournament after going 13-3 in conference.
Man, that call still haunts me. I was ready to stay. That night was the first time I heard our big boosters look at each other and say, "Why are we paying him this much?" Writing was on the wall.

We can’t afford to push anyone out. I imagine 1-2 will want to leave and that’s all we can take a hit on after last year’s Tubby transfer disaster.
Our best bet: a project leaves and we can bring in Wiseman and Simons. And yes it’s fun to dream

Even with Penny I think it will be miraculous if we get Wiseman.

LOL. He absolutely had a way of pushing guys out. He'd ignore them, embarrass them, and God knows what else behind the scenes to make them go away if he went out and recruited someone better.
Having said that, it is ridiculous that players can't transfer at least once without having to sit out.

Who's rankings are you looking at that barely has Simmons in the top 100? Rivals, 247, and ESPN all have him #7. That's a pretty consensus top 10 player
