Playing a top 15 on the road for a conference title, among the best wins in program history IMO.

For regular season games, I say it's the biggest win of the Cronin era. If you factor in Big East and NCAA tournament games, it's probably still top 3 from the past 10 years.

Biggest regular season win since 2002 given the stakes. Memphis and Marquette in 2002 last were both enormous for clinching conference and getting a 1 seed. I put this win in that group. My Bearcat memories only go back to the early 90s so I can't comment on before that.
For the Cronin era I still put the Big East tournament win over #1 Syracuse and the win over FSU in round 2 as the top 2 wins. Hopefully those get topped in the NCAA tournament this year.

There was more on the line in this one but several regular season BE games come to mind as bigger single events IMO. That conference was same planet but different worlds than this one.

agree on all points
i have this game as #3 on the list in Cronin era behind the two games you mentioned Mark.
And regardless...this is the biggest r egular-season win since 2002 IMO

The 2002 Memphis and Marquette games were the first two I thought of. The comeback against DePaul in 2000 when Kenyon took over is up there as well. In Mick's early years there a couple of games in 2011 or 2012 that could be up there based on how they helped get the program back in the tournament. 1998 Great Alaska Shootout win over #1 Duke is still an all time great program win. Last season's victory over Xavier based on the quality of the game as that was by far the best Crosstown Shootout game I have seen in person.
Conference tournament and NCAA tournament game are just different so its hard to compare those games with a regular season victories.

This was a close second to knocking off Eastern Kentucky to begin the Tony Yates era, our lone win against a Division 1 squad in 1983-84.

UC beat the 11th ranked team on the road. Why is that such a big deal? Beat #11 Georgetown on the road in 2011 and 2012 and #3 Syracuse on a neutral court in 2012. UC dominated CUSA for years. Winning the American is no bigger accomplishment. Plus, UC has won national titles. Historically, they are one of the most successful programs in NCAA. To suggest beating the 11th rank team on the road is one of the biggest victories in school history is a kind of a joke.

People have short memories. I recall a UC victory at Villanova against a Top 10 Jay Wright team and lots of great battles with Marquette over the years, including during the Dwayne Wade years. One year Oklahoma State came into the Shoe with a Top Ten team and UC took the Cowboys out to the woodshed with about a 28-point margin of victory. Any UC wins over Louisville, and there have been a number of them when both UC and UofL were in the Big East, including the recent one at UofL where Sean Kilpatrick made like 15 consecutive free throws against a constantly fouling Cardinal team to clinch the victory. As previously noted, last year's home victory over Xavier was memorable, in part because of the quality of play, but also UC overcoming a 28 point first half and a 40-point overall game by Trevon Bluiett.

All of what you said above is true so maybe the question should have been "where does yesterday's win rank in recent UC basketball history". I think the story line yesterday was intriguing to say the least. The national TV exposure was great. The game was exciting and intense. For me one of the better wins in recent history, but to your point probably not one of the biggest program wins ever.

RE: where does this win rank cincy fans
Agree this was one of the top 3-5 wins in the Mick Cronin era with our backs to the wall for the outright conference title at stake in the most hostile environment we've recently played in other than Xavier's home court. The difference is Wichita State fans are passionate but have class! To beat a hot WSU team (won 7 in a row I believe) on the road who are great on the offensive end and underrated on the rebounding side with one of the top coaches in the NCAA speaks for itself IMO. We have struggled against this kind of team in the past, so yeah, it was yuge. Looking forward to playing this quality opponent on an annual basis.

The stakes of playing for an outright conference title, and locking up a top 3 protected seed made this one bigger.

for shear emotion it's up there with donald little's shot to beat marquette. or killa's dagger at uconn (which in my estimation, sparked a budding kinship).
kenyon's depaul game belongs to another realm. i believe it's at the right hand of lord almighty
for as much butt clenching that occurred yesterday, i enjoyed the game as a fan of college basketball

I smell some New Big East butthurt.
That game yesterday was probably watched by more people than the Top 3 most watched New Big East games combined.
Oh and thanks for your interest.

Threads like these could not have happened had we scored ONE... MORE... POINT... yesterday. And for that reason alone, I am happy we lost. Keep it coming boys, I'm almost there...

Beating Syracuse in the 2012 BE tourney has to be the biggest in the Cronin Era. SU was #1 for the majority of the season and I think that was only their 2nd loss until the Big Dance.

It was their only loss all season at full strength, including the NCAA tournament. It was an enormous win. UC was just scorching hot the first half.

I think we are talking Cronin era.
This game would be a blip on the all time UC list.
