I know a coach who would line up the team and throw $40 under the basket. Then, one by one, they took turns shooting free throws. If you missed, you were out. The last one standing took the $40. Sometimes, for added pressure, he would throw down another $40 when it came down to the final four. And the coach would not do this til the end of practice right after they had run 40 sprints. Wanted to make sure they were tired as they are at the end of a game.
Not sure if there is any solid "research" on how those techniques work. Whatever "pressure" situations you set-up in practice, it still is totally different that having to make them under game pressure situations. Some of these techniques may seem to work, but it is still pseudoscience.

While probably a good motivational tool to simulate pressure, probably an NCAA violation.
