RE: Official Liberty Flames Hockey Thread
New D1 hockey news. WCHA members look to undergo new changes.

"Seven prominent NCAA Division I men's hockey playing institutions have announced the exploration of a new Division I men's hockey conference that would begin play with the 2021-2022 season. The seven institutions include: Bemidji State University; Bowling Green State University; Ferris State University; Lake Superior State University; Michigan Technological University; Minnesota State University, Mankato; and Northern Michigan University."
https://bgsufalcons.com/news/2019/6/28/i...ation.aspx

This situation leaves out two Alaska schools and Alabama-Huntsville. The remaining schools comprise of 5 Michigan schools, 1 Ohio school, and 1 Minnesota school. This new conference will significantly help with travel costs. Also, Arizona State is without a conference at this time.

The main point is the this is a very relevant shift and development in D1 hockey. LU should keep a very close eye on the situation to see if a good opportunity is there for a possible jump to D1 hockey.

High Point U to build hockey arena and start DI hockey.

https://www.greensboro.com/news/educatio...3be5a.html

Liberty, UAH, and High Point will have teams. Alabama, Georgia, Louisville and maybe FGCU are rumored getting teams. UAH May have been expelled from the WCHA for a reason.

I’ confused. Are we still talking club hockey or NCAA hockey?

UAH is the only DI team in the South now, but they will be kicked out of the WCHA in two years but are still building an on campus arena.

But rumors surround several schools in the South taking hockey DI.

High Point U will be going DI in a couple years with an on campus arena.

Football has so many NC schools but hockey has zero there.

I know we’re having another great season.

I’m still confused. Are we staying club or moving to NCAA Div 1?

I tried getting into the midnight game but it was sold out.

Last I heard the athletic department is comfortable with club hockey but keeps an eye out for D1. It seems like it will not happen for a while.
The stadium and facilities are nearly there for the jump.
Look for any movement in D1 because it might lead to a great opportunity. The WCHA is looking to drop their Alaska and Alabama teams. Some shifts are occurring soon.

Men's record: 12-2
Only two loses were from the only current undefeated team on the road.

Women's record: 15-2
Current ranking at #1.

Both teams doing well so far in the 19/20 season.

From my discussions this summer with folks in Club Sports, the fear is that our revenue will not be high enough to make up for the cost of moving up to & playing in D1 varsity, especially switching to scholarships instead of players paying to play Club.

Seems harsh, but after discussing it, it makes sense why we haven't yet switched.

But all the haters say that Liberty prints/steals/obtains so much cash that Liberty Mountain is hallowed out into a giant vault that is filled with dollar bills.

I agree that I don't think the dollars are there for the program unfortunately. But I believe that the bigger problem is that I don't think we would have a conference home if we moved up.

Another town in Tennessee is building a hockey arena and it just so happens to be Clarksville, where Austin Peay is located northwest of Nashville. The Nashville Predators will operate the rink.

https://arenadigest.com/2019/11/13/clark...-approved/

So a new private rink in High Point, a new Blues practice rink with sufficient seating capacity in St Louis for Lindenwood, the FGCU admin would like a team and it has a minor league rink nearby that it plays basketball in, Huntsville is building a new on campus arena although they resigned after next year from the WCHA.

All signs pointing to a Southern hockey league of:

Liberty,
High Point,
Austin Peay,
Lindenwood,
Huntsville
FGCU

Will start in two or three years, but Liberty fans remain ignorant that anything is happening. High Point isn’t building a DI rink to be independent.03-banghead

I am posting your response on ASOR for more discussion(since it's still hockey season). Of course I'm going to give you credit by using your username. I for one don't see LU getting involved but it's not a crazy idea haha

Great news that more southern schools are developing hockey! If I may ask, who are the "Liberty fans remain ignorant that anything is happening?" D1 and D1-club are both going through shifts. I posted a shift back in Sept-2019 on this thread. The future is bright for collage hockey.

As for a LU hockey update...

Women's record
18-2
Best record in the ACHA. Goals for (GF) are 115 and goals against (GA) are 22. The second best goals for is 77 (with 24 GA). The ladies are dominating the ACHA in GF.

Men's record
18-3
Third best record in the ACHA. GF is 128 with GA 47. The GF is second best in the ACHA and the GA is tied at 13th best. Two of LU's loses were against the best team in the ACHA, Adrian College with a perfect 20-0 record and 154 GF / 28 GA.

He's just bitter because his "obvious" predictions haven't been happening and nobody takes him serious anymore. It's like you can only predict the end of the world and get it wrong so many times before people stop believing you. The WAC did not turn out to be the gateway conference for a bunch of FCS schools to move up to FBS. There was no formation of a Great Northern FBS conference. Liberty is not using the ASUN to recruit other schools wanting to move to FBS. Now it's a southern hockey Division I conference. The next prediction NoDak gets right will be his first.

Totally Laughable as am so thankful for many things as the Lord is so gracious. Stocks don’t go up overnight by 1000% but they take time to grow and have been exceedingly blessed. All my predictions will come true but I told them too early and wasted writing for impatient people like this board.

So UGa is to build a 5500 seat arena in Athens. Wonder if DI hockey will come?

https://www.redandblack.com/sports/plann...0b725.html

New arenas in High Point, Clarksville, Huntsville and now Athens.

Lindenwood would use the Blues big practice facility.
