Wray lied to congress on Dec 7th - Said there had been no abuse of surveillance
Perhaps now we know why he threatened to quit if the memo was released.

RE: Wray lied to congress on Dec 7th - Said there had been no abuse of surveillance
Remember back in the GWB years when I was opposed to the patRIOT act, and all the right wingers were on my case and claiming that we had to give Bush the tools he wanted to protect the country? Remember my saying that was all well and good as long as the guy in charge was somebody you agreed with, but all those powers to trample individual rights could be abused by somebody you disagreed with? Remember that? This is what I was talking about.
And as far as having all the tools they needed to protect the country, remember after 9/11, the morning of 9/12 every news outlet in the country had names and photos of the 19 hijackers, all of whom were then dead? How did they put that together so fast if all the data they needed to have prevented 9/11 wasn't already in the system--without the patRIOT act or FISA or any of that? The answer is we didn't need any of that to make us safe. It was just Beltway bureaucrats seizing one more way to spy on us.

You were right. Gotta follow the worst possible case scenario with things like this. It gave me the creeps then and it still does. It never fails to amaze me how fast people are willingly give up freedom.
