He basically said that the AAC is a trash league that everybody wants to bail from but can't because they're trapped. Reading this emboldens you?
Quote:However, the truth about the AAC was transparent in the past year: If there’s a way out, the prominent members of the league want to take it. Pretty much every team in the conference applied for entry into the Big 12 when it staged its fruitless expansion pageant, from UConn to Cincinnati to East Carolina. Even Tulane, for goodness sakes.
Whatever Conference USA has become should serve as a fine reminder to Wichita of the peril of abandoning a stable home in the Valley to attempt some social-climbing. Twenty years ago C-USA was a vibrant conference inhabited by Louisville, Marquette and such current AAC members as Memphis and South Florida. Now it’s a loose assortment of programs stretching all the way to El Paso whose teams are capable but get almost zero respect.
Quote:The past few years haven’t been the best for Valley depth, and that’s likely been frustrating at times for Wichita and its fans. But they’ve been associated with the conference since 1945, and the Shockers' presence in the league hasn’t prevented the establishment of WSU as a power. It’s possible it’s even helped. Dominance does sell.

Btw.. Like it or not....this is correct. We spent a whole winter discussing all this as a forum. Go check the archives. And while you’re at it, go check out Cincy’s too. We set a forum posting record for this forum in a thread on this subject. You simply weren’t around to see it.

God this is so pitiful.
At least the puff pieces posted about Wichita are legitimately impressive. This just screams desperation. Desperation to somehow find something that bolsters UC while marginalizing WSU at the exact same time.
I don't think the Shockers have ever been further in the head of any opposing fan in all of their 112 years of playing DI basketball.

Sorry Charlie. But this isn’t the fans. It’s your beloved “WSU is a National power” media. The fact that a major sports outlet reports this should have WSU fans seriously concerned. Just can’t afford any more bad losses...
Concerned about what? We've been absolutely drowning in media love for over half a decade. I feel guilty at this point. Sure I don't like to lose, but the way we've been propped up by everybody with a microphone is ridiculous. I mean, Jesus Christ... we've had a tiny handful of 4* recruits with the vast majority hard-working role players and everybody calls us a National Power. Do you have any idea how humbling that is? Of course you don't.
The only thing that relieves the embarrassment is knowing we earned every single bit of what we did on the court. We didn't enjoy membership in a power conference, we did it all with hard work and determination. The media just latched onto us and won't let go. That's not our fault.
You need to get over us. You enjoyed membership in the Big East and made all your great memories there. Stop focusing on Wichita State's meteoric rise in the national consciousness during the last decade despite having every advantage taken from them for residing in a mid-major conference.

Can I perhaps suggest a single thread with polls/ opinions/ articles you disagree with? It can be easily updated each time you discover a new one.

Stop focusing on Wichita State's meteoric rise in the national consciousness during the last decade despite having every advantage taken from them for residing in a mid-major conference.

lol hardly
You were called a 'good mid major' in your tiny little 8 year run or whatever it is....but keep swinging kid and drink you milk. One day maybe you will grow up and be big and strong.
Facts... those pesky facts... What would we ever do without 'em?

Quote:Yes, this move will include all of Wichita State’s sports. But it’s obviously rooted in the school’s desire to play in a better men’s basketball league now that the Shockers have made six straight NCAA Tournaments and established themselves as a national power -- most notably while reaching the 2013 Final Four. They’ve averaged 30.4 wins the past five seasons and advanced in the NCAA Tournament each year.

Quote:But Shockers' coach Gregg Marshall, who arrived at Wichita in 2007, has taken the program to new heights, coaching the Shockers to a 261-90 record (.744) in 11 years. He has reestablished the Shockers as a regional and national power

Quote:Wichita State’s basketball program is the bait on the hook. The addition of the Shockers would instantly bolster the American Athletic Conference into one of the elite basketball conferences in the nation. The Shockers resume of success is lined with 13 NCAA tournament appearances. In the past four seasons, head coach Gregg Marshall has architected a 35-1 season, as well as a Final 4 and Sweet 16 appearance. They are no mid-major. They are a nationally relevant program, capable of competing with the Power 5 and they are powerful.

Quote:“Wichita State has raised the profile of the league, but they’ve also raised the bar inside the league,” Elgin said. “Coaches’ compensation has improved, practice facilities have been improved. You can’t really overstate what the rise of the Shockers as a national power means. They’ve kept our league in the national focus. They beat Indiana and Kansas in a weekend last March. And there is enough depth on Gregg Marshall’s roster that the program will be healthy for a long time.”

Quote:Wichita State’s duality as a dominant national program from outside of a power conference is becoming an increasing anomaly. The Shockers may play in the Missouri Valley Conference, but they have a national brand, a consistently packed arena and they pay coach Gregg Marshall well over $3 million per year. Essentially, everything about them aside from their league schedule and the respect from the NCAA selection committee is high-major.

Quote:Wichita State has risen to a national power in some sports, and a conference power in all. In the six sports it holds teams for both men and women — baseball/softball, basketball, cross country, golf, tennis, and track and field — as well as women’s volleyball, the school has collected a total of 51 MVC championships in just the last 10 years.

Quote:Wichita State coach Gregg Marshall has tried to publicly goad Kansas into agreeing to a home-and-home series for the past couple years to no avail. Kansas coach Bill Self feels his program has nothing to gain by deviating from his longstanding policy of not scheduling the Shockers even as they have ascended from quality mid-major to budding national power.
