He could always put the team on his back (along with 3-4 defenders) and still make it happen. Every time.

As many of said, the current QB will always have the advantage in these polls. If you had this poll two years ago, Vad Lee would probably be the best in JMU history or at least a lot higher than he is in this poll.
That poll is probably somewhere on this message board......

I feel the same as you, however, I hold to the belief had MM not had such a love affair with JT as a Freshman and allowed him to go through the progression RL did following JR and give him a chance to mature by following Dudzik (who was a class young man) then things might have been quite different. Instead, MM put him in when he wasn't ready mentally. That two QB system at the beginning of 09 was stupid.

Still looking for the ginga ninja on the poll. Clearly an administrative error

RE: Who is the greatest Quarterback in JMU history?
Cawley was drafted in the 6th round of NFL draft.
Landers did not have the arm.
Schor is undersized
The quality of football in FCS/1AA has declined remarkably since the days of Cawley. Not necessarily at JMU, but the best teams have left for FBS and the talent has been diluted as more scholarships have opened-up at FBS level.

Again, the poll was about JMU not about the NFL. That keeps Cawley from the top (or even top 3), Rascati, Landers, and Schor took JMU to the peak or almost the peak (we were #1 for a long time, right up to the Montana loss with Landers). Were we ever top 10 with Cawley?

No No no. The poll isn’t what are your biggest gripes about some great jmu quarterbacks and why fcs is lame. Think you may have misread. Try again

Cawley obviously didn't have the supporting cast members the other 3 did. Does that make him an inferior QB? Cawley was the most talented QB.

Hard to believe our best QB was not even first team all CAA as a senior.
I love Brian but he turned the ball over a lot this year including yesterday.
I will admit, in my 13 years of following JMU football, Schor may be the QB who has thrown the most INT per game than any we've seen in that time frame. It was definitely his biggest flaw.
I think he threw at least one INT in every game this year except 2 or 3. Out of 15!

RE: Who is the greatest Quarterback in JMU history?
Schor and Rascati have similarites and both won a championship. The difference to me is 7-4 in 2005 vs 14-1 in 2017. Schor followed up his championship with a better season. Vad Lee may have looked even better had he actually had a defense on the other side of the ball to help him out.
I also didn't remember Rascati also played in 2006. I thought Landers was starting by then.

Not sure about that. I think Cawley was throwing to at least a couple future NFL players (Macey Brooks and Ed (?) at TE)...but the competition (such as UD) was stiffer in-conference back then, and opportunities for post-season play much more limited.

Cawley was amazing. I had front row seats (in the band) to watch him while he was there and he was great. Very much a classic pro-style QB so hard to compare him to the running or hybrid running QB’s we’ve had that also top the list. And yes, he had two of his receivers play in the NFL too, so it’s not like he didn’t have a supporting cast.

So you’ve worried all season about the exact set of circumstances that led to our loss yesterday? Did you also worry about a roughing the kicker penalty that extended the first drive and several bad calls by the refs? Seems like you thought of everything else very specifically.
I’m going to Vegas next weekend. Can you come with?

is all about what you did when you stepped on that field , Shor has done the most in the Stat Book and in the W column.
And example is Tony Lezotte, he has all the numbers to be the DB in JMU history.

Four years starting (& 4x AA right?) will help those stats! But yeah, Tony was incredible to watch. Such good instincts & could cover a ton of ground.

There were 5 quarterbacks on this list I'd put ahead of him. As for leadership, he stood on the sidelines in the game against Montana instead of getting back into a must win game. And most of the people on this board probably aren't old enough to remember Eric Williams, who is among the 5 I'd list ahead of Landers.

I knew Cawley had Macey Brooks and Ed Perry to throw to, but I would think you would need more than just 2 receivers. I believe Ed played for the Dolphins.
Cawley was a pro-style QB but very mobile. He could thread a needle while on the run.
These polls could go on and on. What is greatest? Most successful? Most talented?
In baseball, there are some who won't give the MVP award to a player on a losing team. But Mike Trout has proved those wrong.

RE: Who is the greatest Quarterback in JMU history?
My knowledge only goes back to 2006, but for that time frame I'm not sure how you don't say Rodney or Vad with my vote going to Rodney. Put either of them on either of these teams the last two seasons and I don't think there's a question that the team improves. Put Schor on any of their teams (which actually did happen two seasons ago...) and I think it's very likely the team gets worse.
