All those libs that ran from the market when Trump won are no doubt enjoying this news. There is a correction coming, but dang, I thought it would have happened by now. With the new tax bill coming in to play now, I am not sure when that correction happens.

The correction happens when Democrats win a house. Then it will tumble because thats what They want. And They will blame Trump for the fall. Such selfish bastards !

Heck, as soon as Trump won I switched all my stuff into the "Aggressive" funds. No doubt a correction will come; however, if one is adequately diversified it won't be too big a deal and represent another buying opportunity, etc....

Um, the "points" and "dollars" are interchangeable. If the market goes up 25 points, it means that the stocks in the index will cost you $25 more (on a combined basis).

Quote:Stock Market Indexes by the Point
Although the "one point equals one dollar" concept works well for individual stocks, one point of the Dow Jones industrial average does not equate to one dollar. This is a price-weighted index of the combined performance of 30 stocks of the largest companies in the U.S. Although the Dow Jones industrial average includes the word "average" in its name, it is actually an "index" because the 30 stocks are "weighted" by price. Some stocks are more important than others. You compute the Dow as follows: add the component prices of the 30 stocks to get a total, and then divide the sum of the 30 stock prices by the "Dow divisor." The Dow divisor provides the indexing function. It adjusts the total price of the combined 30 stocks based on the relative importance of each individual stock. The divisor is periodically adjusted to account for important changes in the values of component stocks. For example, the Dow divisor was adjusted to 0.132129493 in July of 2010. This adjustment reflected the divestment of New Communications Holdings by Verizon Communications.

Keep trying.

Here's a hint; the DJIA is an average price of stocks divided by something. The average is in dollars. What unit of measure does this get divided by?

You can do it. But I bet you'll just run and hide.

Quote:For example, if the DJIA rose by 50 points, it means that the cost of purchasing the 30 stocks in the index was $50 higher than the cost of purchasing those same 30 stocks yesterday, taking into account stock splits and dividends. In other words, those stocks are more valuable today than they were the previous day. Over time, the DJIA can be used as a benchmark for the economy.

This is the point where Tom realizes he is wrong, disappears for 2 weeks from the thread, and claims he was "busy".

Hey Tom, ever heard of a unit of measure? Do you know how to use them in mathematical formulas?

And this is the point where you lie again. I showed you time and time again that you were the one who ran away from that other thread.

And FWIW - I already provided the information in Post #13.
