Women's Hoops Discussion
Last year was a disaster with a 6-25 record, this year so far the women are 4-8. Seems like a long uphill path to get back to where we once where. Recruiting appears to be doing well but how long will it take to translate that to on court success?

Here is the women's early recruiting class.

RE: Women's Hoops Discussion
So maybe I'm overthinking it but we only currently have one player FROM the stat of Michigan, Micah Robinson and she is a a graduating Senior. Is it wrong that I wish we recruited literally any player from Michigan?

RE: Women's Hoops Discussion
All I can say is that Castro needs to get the program back on track. Players left after Finley didn't get the head coaching job. Few EMU WBB players come from MI. We've done much, much better recruiting other areas including Toledo.

Verdi went to UMass and his record there last season and this one is underwhelming, to say the least.

http://www.umassathletics.com/schedule.a...hedule=394

Verdi might have messed up two WBB programs, ours and UMass. I'm now putting with Luckey's help, both Verdi and Heath (recruiting thread) in the same sentence: Both should have known when to stay put and not jump because the grass looked greener on the other side of the fence. To pivot to football, Heath might have been another Ron Cooper: When your resume looks good, move on...

Coaches like Ron Cooper, Stan Heath, and Tori Verdi screwing up by the numbers...

Watching today's game (vs. TOL). The team is a surprise so far this year in conference.

I hung around and watched the first half of today's game with Toledo after the BG men's debacle. EMU was much smaller but rotated a bunch of players in and out, played great man to man defense by moving their feet and boxed out on rebounds. And yes they did play the occasional 2-3 zone as well. In any case they appeared to be very well versed in fundamentals and coach Castro was very engaged. Needless to say I was duly impressed.

The type of defense doesn't matter, succeess is only predicated by offense - lol kidding :-)

I'm surprised, almost shocked, what the women have done. Saw some of today's game. Very impressive win.

Admitingly I'm not the biggest WBB fan, but it's nice having a young coach with a highly rated recruiting class have some success in only his second season.

EMU defeats WMU and moves to 4-2 in MAC

Even more interesting is that some of the more exciting players I've heard are freshmen and the team should be even better next season.

Keep it rolling!!!!

Hate to disappoint you but EMU WBB has a number of transfers (including Minott) and plays the the zone... 05-stirthepot The Murphy effect is in force for WBB.

The three big scorers tonight were Minnott (29 points), Sasha Dailey, and Emoni Jackson (UofM transfer).

Minott has been carrying this team with her 3-ball shooting, shooting 41% within conference.

If Murphy had someone shooting 41% behind the arc in conference play Luckey would get packing for a trip to CLE and maybe the big dance.

We (women) play a zone because we have a weak middle. 07-coffee3 You play a zone defense to cover up a defensive weakness.

Sure. JT4 can't cover a CYO player. Lol.

Did you learn that from a basketball course at EMU? 03-lmfao

Did i say jt? Please point that out where i said that. 07-coffee3 on everyone of Murphy's team the center has always stayed under the basket. So my guess it's a mobility issue.07-coffee3

My bad.

I just the last sentence and missed the first.

I came here to correct.

I have seen Hudson play and she is not quick a foot. Need to protect her.

And the last i checked there are 5 defensive/offensive players on court for any given team. You need to take a class or 2 or 3 on basketball.

Sorry, we are trying to say the same thing. She is very, very slow footed and lacks quicks so yes it is to cover a weakness.
