There should be a little common sense applied to these allegations. Its pretty hard to trust someone who is paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to tell their story. You KNOW at the least there is significant embellishing to please the payor.

And there should be a different standard applied to someone in the private sector than a politician. The career of someone in the private sector shouldn't be ended without convincing proof, not just allegations (hence the Salem witch hunt comment). At the same time, you have to have a lot more skepticism about claims against politicians.

I would say the opposite. It isn't a secret that politicians, in general are some of the worst offenders. It isn't a party thing. State capitals and DC see this constantly. When they are called on it it is often swept under the rug. Sometimes they push the guy quietly out, sometimes not. Women are just tired of this **** and they are speaking up with the hope that this is a watershed.

How bad is it? I can go back to 1975. I was a high school student attending Close Up in Washington. Several of us were on an elevator in one of the government buildings. When we got off one of the girls, 16 or 17 years old, was red faced. She looked at the rest of us and quietly said, "that guy grabbed my butt." There had been some kind of a Capital Police or security (he was in uniform) man, middle age, could have been one of our fathers behind us in the elevator. She was upset but didn't do anything but keep on going. I don't think she ever told any of the adults. She was scared and embarrassed.
