Here's the deal. I fly an avg amount in my profession, and I'm willing to bet that SJL used United due to their contract with the US govt to fly govt personnel when flying on the gov't dollar. However, it is widely known that we may NOT use our travel card for upgrades. We are also not permitted to accept any sort of gift of any kind greater than $20 in value while serving in a professional capacity.

So here's what I'm interested in knowing...

If it's true, as United claims that the woman cancelled her 1st class ticket, there would be be record of that (no word of that yet, to my knowledge). Additionally, a member of the press should do their job and look into the finances a little further. How was SJL's seat upgraded? For free... if so that's a violation of receipt of a gift of monetary value well above the limit. Did she pay for it? How? Personal card... if so, this is back on United for booting the woman who had claim of the seat unless it's true she cancelled her upgrade. Gov't travel card... again illegal and punishable.

Curious situation indeed.

my guess.....she signed a waiver and got paid much more....

she's combating a black dem congresswoman w/o a clue flying on an airline that has gotten hammered over the last year.....

it doesn't take a genius to read between those 'airlines'.....

the way I look at it is, if I'm that person, my bank acct just got upped by an undisclosed amount..............dems understand that game to a 'T'.....that one I give 'em.....

How’d the lady have her boarding pass with her seat number on it? Unless she was an idiot and cancelled her ticket after checking in.

Also, the fact the SJL somehow made this a race issue when the lady was told at the gate that she lost her seat even before she saw the person now in her seat is ridiculous. I work with an older black lady who somehow makes things racial when they’re not. I had to tell her that ****** work is ****** work, no matter your color.

Here's the problem: Youse guys are smarter than the reporters on tv, most notably the people on Fox News because that's the ONLY entity that would investigate a Demon. There's no way the other networks would investigate a Demons wrongdoing.

So, in conclusion: It's never gonna happen.

I would agree with the single exception that DJT and the internutz is changing that game....

it CAN work both ways......it simply depends on much of a pu$$y one is moving forward and how they engage....

Congresswoman who ‘bumped’ passenger from flight plays the race card

Who could have seen this coming......

Quote:Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, who was accused by a United Airlines passenger of bumping her from a first-class seat, said in a Twitter screed on Tuesday that she believes the incident is all about race.

“Since this was not any fault of mine, the way the individual continued to act appeared to be, upon reflection, because I was an African American woman, seemingly an easy target along with the African American flight attendant who was very, very nice,” the Texas Democrat wrote in a post. “This saddens me, especially at this time of year given all of the things we have to work on to help people.”

“But in the spirit of this season and out of the sincerity of my heart, if it is perceived that I had anything to do with this, I am kind enough to simply say sorry,” Jackson Lee continued. “But as an African American, I know there are too many examples like this all over the nation.”

Jean-Marie Simon, 63, said she was tossed out of her first-class seat on a Houston-to-Washington, DC, flight Dec. 18 to make way for Jackson Lee.

The teacher from Washington, DC, said in a Facebook post two days later that she saw a uniformed United employee pull Jackson Lee from the priority boarding line and escort her to a first-class seat before any other passengers got on the plane.

When Simon went to board with her first-class ticket, an agent said it wasn’t in the system. Another United attendant told her that united.com had changed her reservation an hour earlier and upgraded another passenger to her seat.

Simon later learned the congresswoman ended up in her seat.

But Jackson Lee, in her tweets, said she did “nothing wrong.”

“I asked for nothing exceptional or out of the ordinary and received nothing exceptional or out of the ordinary. I proceeded to take my seat and work on legislative issues on my way to Washington,” she posted.

Jackson Lee said she heard that the woman had “canceled her own flight.”

“I noted that this individual came toward me and took a picture. I heard later that she might have said ‘I know who she is,’ ” she wrote.

She said she hopes the airline makes everything right with Simon.

A United spokesperson said that the airline apologized to Simon and offered her a $500 voucher for another flight.

But Simon said that’s not correct.

“United has not apologized to me,” Simon told The Post in an email Tuesday. “A low ranking employee responding to an online customer complaint apologized on the phone, in his individual capacity. He also said he would send my complaint up the chain at United. To date, I have not heard from United.”

She said she did get the voucher, on Dec. 18 when the airline canceled her ticket, but after she protested the gate agent’s offer of a $300 voucher.

I want legislation passed that says all members of congress must fly cargo with cages containing chickens sitting on their laps.

Quote:A United passenger whose first-class seat on a recent flight from Houston to D.C. was given to Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee is firing back at the Democratic congresswoman's accusations of racism – while challenging the airline's account of the incident.

Jean-Marie Simon, an attorney and private school teacher, became the latest face of airline passenger woes when she detailed on Facebook and later to the news media how she lost her seat to the Texas lawmaker.

But despite a statement from United seeking to explain the switch-out, she's not giving up the fight. And the congresswoman's response – essentially claiming Simon made a scene because Jackson Lee, as an African-American woman, is an "easy target" – did not calm the waters.

Simon, in an interview with Fox News, rejected the racism allegation.

“That could have been Donald Duck in my seat,” Simon, a Democrat, told Fox News on Thursday. “I could not see who had boarded the flight. I didn’t even know who she was.”

Quote:Simon is focusing her energy mostly on dealing with United, not Jackson Lee, but told Fox News, “The only way she is relevant is that she has a documented history of demanding first-class service.”

I try to avoid domestic airlines if at all possible. Considering that I mainly fly international when I do fly, this is easy to do. I do not think I have take a domestic airline overseas in over a decade. Foreign airlines, for the most part, have customer service figured out. Domestic airlines still treat it like flying bus service.

are domestic flights within foreign countries as nice as the international ones? i've only flown domestically in a foreign country twice and i remember them to be comparable to ones here in terms of overall satisfaction

Woman Accused Of Racism By Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee Is Human-Rights Activist

That nullifies the race card.

Quote:The woman Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee accused of racism is a celebrated photojournalist who helped document human-rights abuses in war-torn Guatemala during the 1980s.

Jean-Marie Simon, whose first-class seat on a United Airlines flight was given to Ms. Jackson Lee, Texas Democrat, lived and worked in Guatemala during the turbulent decade that saw the military seize control of the government in a coup. Hundreds of thousands of Guatemalans were killed or “disappeared” during the conflict.

Now a teacher, Ms. Simon, 63, is the author of “Guatemala: Eternal Spring Eternal Tyranny.” A 2012 blog post on Amnesty International saidMs. Simon donated 1,000 copies of her book to schools and universities in Guatemala “to keep the truth of what happened alive.”

Coming from Houston, it's hard to avoid United, unless you go to Hobby and fly Southwest, and coming from the north that tacks an extra hour on the trip for me, each way. Fortunately, most Houston flights get Houston-based (meaning ex-Continental) crews. The two cultures really haven't merged. The Continental crews are much more customer oriented. They also seem to drop hints that they are. You get, "Welcome aboard Cont.. err, United flight 222," or, "For our OnePass, err, Mileage Plus customers..." all the time. That tends to be reassuring, meaning you are getting a friendlier crew.

When I lived in Houston proper, I really enjoyed Southwest.

I always flew continental back in the day....easily the best of the rest 15 yrs ago...

it's not surprising 'those' folk still take pride in their occupation in that arena....

If I recall Southwest was founded off of three routes going counterclockwise in the Texas Triangle so they'll treat their backyard very well, much like how the McDonald's a hundred feet from their HQ in suburban Chicago is the best store in the chain. Still, Southwest provides good service for most flights at solid prices everywhere else anyways, and even if I had to pay equal to the other airlines for them it's worth it to not fly through O'Hare.

Yes.

My son and I took a domestic flight with Avianca last week from Lima to Cusco and it was on par with the international flight from the US. Obviously, not as long so the food choices werent as good, etc but the crew was great and plane was nice. Compare to domestic airlines, the foreign airlines seem to do a better job with customer service in general.
