This is to placate the religious right. They have a connection to the state of Israel because they believe that if/when Israel becomes "complete" and the temple is rebuilt, that it kicks off Armageddon. This is the only reason why the values wing of the GOP gives one rip about Israel.
This has nothing to do with hating Jewish people. Quite the contrary. Jewish people have contributed a great deal to the human race in recent history. The issue is that their claim to the land has long been forfeit since the they first lost their independence. The northern kingdom was lost well before Judah was conquered by the Babylonians, Persians, Greeks and Romans. Judah and the Jews who lived in Jerusalem didn't even think of the Samaritans (end product of the Assyrian rule of the Northern kingdom) as real worshipers of Yaweh. In biblical terms, the 10 lost tribes that made up the northern kingdom were "lost" due to interbreeding with other peoples that the Assyrians relocated to Israel. The "southern kingdom" - actually Judah - did not think of Samaritans as anything but dogs and not as the chosen people. Judah went on as an independent state for awhile longer and was conquered by the Babylonians, Persians, Greeks and Romans. For the sake of argument, let's establish a firm date where the Jews were "officially" thrown out of "Israel"around 136 CE at the end of the Jewish revolts against Rome. Around that time period, Israel was long gone as an actual entity and many boundaries were redrawn to make Roman provinces. From that point on, there were some limited successes for Jews to immigrate back to Jerusalem and greater Israel. However, it wasn't until the Zionist movement that was supported by Britain - who came into possession of the middle east after WWI from the Ottomans - when Jews made any real inroads into repopulating the land. The UN in 1948 finally opened the floodgates for the Jews flung across the glob to want to go back.
Long response, but IMHO important on why I believe what I do. Bottom line is that the Jews in Israel lost their claim to that land a long time ago and it was the U.N. in 1948 that finally restored it to them. What the world did in 1948 was to cause a sh!t storm by placing the Jews into their ancestral homeland - a homeland that long slipped from their grasp just like large tracts of the U.S. slipped from the grasp of various native American Indian tribes. Really, it comes again from the arrogance of Europe (and the U.S. unfortunately) to arbitrarily move boundaries around for their own convenience and to deposit the Jews in the Middle East out of guilt for what Hitler did - and of course to get the "undesirables" out of their country. Because lets face it, Europe in particular has a nasty strain of anti-semitism themselves. They were more than happy to off load some Jews from their own countries.
Sorry for the long response.
You failed to answer my questions earlier so I'll ask them again. What claim do the "Palestinians" have on the land? What is their genetic identity? What is their history and tie to the land?
If you looked at the area of Israel compared to the Arab nations around them, it would be like them owning New Jersey and the Arabs owning the rest of the United States. God forbid those Jews have any land. You can spin it any way you want, but you sound anti-Semitic. Maybe the Jews should have just stayed in Europe where they have been hounded and killed for centuries. Maybe a few more million could have been sent to the gas chambers since they don't really deserve a country.
BTW, were there any other countries formed in the Middle East in the first part of the 20th Century or was it just a country for those dirty kikes?
Spare the drama. Do you know WHY Europe was so inhospitable to the Jews from the fall of the Roman Empire into the 20th century? Because they thought the Jews were responsible for killing Christ. Despite the disadvantages the Jews had in their isolated pockets scattered throughout Europe, they prospered where they lived. IMHO, the Jews would have been much better off emigrating to the U.S. We would have taken them in. Granted, we have some antisemitism in our own country, but not nearly to the extent it exists in Europe. And the U.S. would be much more tolerant of the Jews than the people of the Middle East. The Jews were hard working people who were also smart. They do quite well here now, and if the people living in Israel today were actually citizens of the U.S., our country would be greater than it is today because they could have contributed to our well being.
Plus the U.S. has way better land than Israel. Granted, Israel has some nice areas along the coast. However, a lot of Israel is also arid. That land is crap compared to what is available in the U.S.
Again, putting the Jews in the Middle East is self serving for the Jews who embraced nationalism and the Christians who think the Jews in Israel are the means to get the Apocalypse started. That land is sh!t. Integrating into U.S. society would be much better for those living in Israel today.

All his ranting and raving in all directions and blaspheming God, the Holy Land and the bible at every opportunity, yet he can't remotely make a logical or honest argument against Jerusalem being the Capitol of modern Israel at all, which was the entire point of the discussion. 1000+ words and not one even attempted to hit on the point.

Miko isn't an anti Semite, his bigotry is aimed at Christians and the bible itself.
Its no secret here though, his anti-christian bigotry has been pointed out by countless posters.
He likes to mix lies with the truth too (sound familiar?). The Holy Roman empire was extremely anti semetic. As was Pagan Rome before it converted to "pagan christianity" under Constantine.

I've been to Israel a couple of times. The land is not sh!t, as you put it. It is a fascinating country and I can see why the Jewish people feel a bond to the land. It's the land of their ancestors and much of their history is there. If you can't understand that, I'm not sure what could convince you. If the Jews wanted to return to their homeland, why should they not have been allowed to? Because the Arabs wouldn't like it?
Also, you need to lay off assuming that all Christian support is only to bring the Apocalypse. A lot of us believe they should have a country there simply because it is their ancestral homeland. If they hadn't been treated so poorly down through the centuries, they probably wouldn't have even had the desire to return to the land.
RE: 128 countries vote against Israel and United States
There will never be a more blatant or undeniable proof that the bible is the divine Word of God than what is happening in Israel and with the Christian church today (other than the tribulation and 2nd coming itself). Only God can foretell the 2500+ year history of a people/nation before it ever comes to pass.
Anyone who still has doubts, I implore you to read these things in the bible for yourself. By all means, don't just blindly take my or anyone elses word for it. You don't have to blindly guess if the bible is true, its already a proven fact for those who open the book and read it and compare it with secular recorded history.
Miko and others like him will be 100% without excuse when he stands before Christ and the saints at the White Throne Judgment.

That was easily one of the dumbest point he tried to make.
The Holy land was a barren wasteland in the 19th century before the Jews returned. Today it is a virtual paradise in a barren middle east. It produces per capita more fresh food, milk, and vegetation than any of the surrounding nations in the entire region.

Yeah. After they drained all the swamps and lost a lot of people to malaria. I would have thought the "Palestinians" would have taken better care of the land.
RE: 128 countries vote against Israel and United States
The UN is worthless these days. It’s just a platform for tin horn dictators to preen and grandstand. We need to end it. Just have the US, China, Russia—maybe a few others act as a security council. They run the show anyway. The rest of the UN is just a waste of time.

Iraq, jordan, Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and other Middle East allies voted against us. Pull funding from them, and ISIS will overrun their countries.

Certainly, nobody desires ISIS overrun of moderate Middle Eastern states, but similar to the Pelosi-styled armageddan tax reform predictions, I truly doubt the veracity of such claims. And I damned sure trust, that weeks from now, such claims will be rendered completely overblown, except in the eyes of the most partisan left-wing media.
RE: 128 countries vote against Israel and United States
Most of those 128 countries, quite a few of them allies of ours, receive some kind of aid (financial or otherwise) from us. I love how they feel the need to bite the hand that feeds them. Israel's capital is Jerusalem. The capital of the Jewish people is Jerusalem. Always has been, always will be. The Bible makes it very clear that the Jewish people are God's chosen people, and that those nation-states which choose to stand with Israel and the Jewish people will be blessed by God.
May God Bless the Seven that chose to stand with the United States and Israel! May God forever Bless Israel. And May God forever Bless America!

There are very nice parts of Israel. You need to keep in mind that it's a semi arid region. Half the land is desert, and about 20% of it can be farmed naturally. It takes a lot of technology and diligence to keep the land they have hospitable in order to sustain the population. I stand by my comments that their land is generally poor quality compared to other parts of the world and given that they're trying to pack in 6 million plus people into the hospitable areas of the country.
Quote:Since 1901 in pre-state Israel, KKL-JNF has supported plant and soil research. Today, that support has grown into a network of research and development stations that develop cutting edge methods of farming in arid and semi-arid regions with brackish water. In addition, cheap and sustainable crop irrigation is possible thanks to the 230 water reservoirs and effluent purifying systems that KKL-JNF has built all over Israel, with the support of its friends worldwide. KKL-JNF's support of sustainable agriculture has turned Israel into a powerhouse of innovation.
From this site, you can see the challenges that the Jews face living in modern Israel. They have done amazing work to make the land bearable to live in. Again, it's taking Herculean efforts to have what they have. More detail below.
Quote:During recent years, Israel's water crisis had been gradually worsening. There are several reasons for the water shortage, including the fact that Israel is a semi-arid region with few sources of water - the population is growing rapidly, the standard of living with its accompanying consumption of water per capita is rising and there have been several consecutive years of drought.
For many years, KKL-JNF has been working to bolster Israel's water economy by developing alternative water sources, saving the economy millions of shekels each year. KKL-JNF collects and treats water from agriculture, sewage, flash floods and urban runoff for recycling, saving precious fresh water sources for drinking. With over 230 water reservoirs throughout the country, KKL-JNF has enriched Israel's water economy by a total of 260 million cubic meters. The water from KKL-JNF’s reservoirs is used for agricultural irrigation in places with little rain, enabling intensive, profitable agriculture; even in regions where without the treated sewage water, there would be no agriculture at all. Now, the availability of water can allow for two-and-a-half growth cycles in a year.
Israel is the world leader today in the use of reclaimed water. More than 85% of its effluents are treated and used for agriculture, and the aim is to reach 90% within the next few years. Large areas that were once desolate due to water scarcity, especially in the Negev, are now green and covered with groves and field crops. Purified wastewater is relatively cheap and available for farmers, which enables them to profit from their labor.
The bottom line is - IMHO - that it would not take much to tip the scales against the Jews living there today wrt water scarcity. That land is not naturally designed to sustain the number of people living there. You can draw parallels to the challenges in Vegas. However, unlike Vegas who can easily draw water from friendly regions surrounding it, Israel does not have that luxury.

I don't think anyone is questioning the challenges they face with the lack of rainfall. The nation does not receive much rainfall and even then, the rainy season is the winter. Some parts of the country receive hardly any rain at all. I will agree that the Israelis face a number of challenges. Yet, they still feel a pull to the land and choose to live there when they can live anywhere in the world. Maybe you need to explore that a bit. There has to be a reason other than the weather and terrain. It's their homeland and they aren't going anywhere.

More Jews choose not to live in Israel than do. If all of the world Jews tried to live in Israel, could they do it? I don't think they have the resources. Again, we're in the weeds on this discussion. My original point is that Trump signaling that they want to move the embassy to Jerusalem is unnecessarily stirring up a hornets nest in an already volatile area. It doesn't matter to me if Israel exists today or not. IMHO, with the ME no longer having their bargaining chip with the U.S. - Petroleum - we don't have much of a reason to be spending gobs of time in the ME anymore.
My other point on why Trump is doing this is because he needs to acknowledge the support he got from the religious right. The religious right are the ones that support Israel the most in this country, and Trump doing this cements his support from the religious right.
