IMHO, that has nothing to do with the reason why a detail oriented board is desired. Current board is primarily concerned with topics from the news cycle. The new board is about policy discussion.

And that's fine and works well. The main Spin Room board (this one) has kinda morphed into a Drudge-ish current news NOW board. Even when you try to start threads of higher caliber discourse they get buried by the sheer volume of newsy posts. And there's nothing wrong with that, but I still think there's an unsatisfied market for more intellectually rigorous threads. I'm considering creating an invite-only-to-post but publicly-viewable board that is VERY tightly moderated but VERY intellectually rigorous as a subforum.

Thoughts? Feedback in general?

I'm all for it...........just so long as I'm one of the kids in the "invite crowd"

Same here. I do think we would want people with different viewpoints, or else it would get boring. And that requires people who can disagree without being disagreeable for your format to work.

Can't say I'd be active on a "members only post" board, but I'm probably not your target audience.

Since I'm nearly 100% positive you'll be invite the rabble-rousers and the......well I can't say the posters name or his crime, who do nothing but incite those they disagree with politically. I can't take any "policy discussion" board seriously with people like Fit, the Toms, mach et. al involved. Now I'm not your target demographic, as I pretty much put the lefties, and some lefties disguised as righties, on blast. I can have a meaningful discussion if I feel the other person is sincere. Since 99% of the lefties on the board aren't sincere in the slightest, I don't expect to be invited.

RE: Tweaking the organization somewhat
I like the idea someone proposed of not making it invite only, but using a swift and heavy ban hammer with much less warning. I don't post here nearly as much as other posters, but I enjoy reading through all the threads and would likely enjoy the same in a more intellectual, thought-provoking board. If it's invite-only you're preventing others from benefiting from your intellectual prowess and thought sharing.

It's a good idea, but not if you keep the exact same moderators you have for this forum. IMHO, you need more diversity of philosophies if you're going to moderate it even more than this forum.

If you are worried about who will "moderate" the new board, then the new board probably isnt for you.

I agree. If it's by invitation only, you risk making the new forum nothing but an echo chamber where everyone can simply agree and pat each other on the back. No learning can take place in an environment like that.
