Tweaking the organization somewhat
I've been mulling over some tweaks here. The WWE board is now more or less the smack board for filth to be dumped into. And that's fine and works well. The main Spin Room board (this one) has kinda morphed into a Drudge-ish current news NOW board. Even when you try to start threads of higher caliber discourse they get buried by the sheer volume of newsy posts. And there's nothing wrong with that, but I still think there's an unsatisfied market for more intellectually rigorous threads. I'm considering creating an invite-only-to-post but publicly-viewable board that is VERY tightly moderated but VERY intellectually rigorous as a subforum.

Thoughts? Feedback in general?

I'm for it. I personally get tired of the one liner pissing contests that some threads devolve into.

I could use it, personally, should I make the invite cut because I am turning into my own one-liner nightmare and would like to get back to something a little more academic and though provoking.

Good idea. I like it here, but I also like interaction and it is nearly impossible to have any unless you treat it like a Twitter feed... which is fine and entertaining, but sometimes I'm in the mood for more serious discussion.

RE: Tweaking the organization somewhat
I'd say that since some moderating has already occurred on this thread, that's a good sign for the future of a new board like this.

I actually think everyone should initially be invited, but the ban hammer should come rapidly. I think a lot of the one-liner people are more than capable of a higher level discussion, but use this more as entertainment. I know I would have a separate personality for each board. Another idea, if possible, is to have a setting where you need to type a minimum of, say, 500 words to even hit "Post Reply". But only on that board, keep this one as is.

That's a pretty good proposal, but 500 words might be a bit excessive.

Unless it's someone's opinion that I know I already value, I'd just skim a thread of 500 words. 50 would do.

RE: Tweaking the organization somewhat
There's some people who post here who have some very good insight on some things I wouldnt mind discussing with them. Its virtually impossible to do that in this current setting. Not that I would want to see this current area changed. But the type of discourse you are talking about would have to be handled in a completely different area for it to be successful.

Maybe a good summary at the top of the post, and some links to additional information at the end.

Sounds like evidence or support to what you say?

Interesting idea. We should try it.

You lost me at "intellectually".

Seriously, unless you're only willing to let people like Tulane where they think writing a dissertation would convey their point much better I guess I'll just leave. I'm a man of few words and I HATE to be long-winded like some posters here. I'll leave it up to you if you're willing to let strong, men of few words to post.

Please let me know, I can take it.

Is a college degree necessary to get an invite?
