If Jacob Evans had the mentality of Eric Hicks.
He would be a first team all american and a top 10 pick. I'd rather see someone not as talented play with extreme hustle and scary, than someone as talented as Evans be as passive as he is. I was thinking;even if he DOES get drafted-he wont last if he doesn't develop a killer instinct. Dudes like Harden, Westbrook, James, Curry are all elite-but they also play with a " you can't stop me, biotch " swagger. I miss the days people were intimidated by the red and black. I'm not saying we need a bunch of Vontaze Burficts on our squad, but we need more than what we've seen.

RE: If Jacob Evans had the mentality of Eric Hicks.
Ironically, last night was one of Evans's best games as a Bearcat. His stat line showed his promise as a complete player. Unfortunately, we have seen a number of disappointing performances by Evans, where his lack of aggressiveness and "killer instinct" limit his effectiveness. But it should be noted that Evans was our point guard in the last 2-3 minutes last night. His handle is better than either Jenifer or Broome and he makes foul shots at about a 75% clip.

He's also shooting at 50% from my field and 41% from 3. He's played incredible defense this year and leads the team in blocks. He's going to play a long time in the NBA but not because he's like the superstars mentioned above. Hes going to be a 4th or 5th starter who can d up 1-3 and hit open shots.
It's beginning to amaze me how everyone wouldn't be better if they were more like (insert former Bearcat). I love our former players but most of these guys aren't nearly as good as the romanticized memories of them. If they were we would've been making deep runs all the time.

I don't mean Eric Hicks was skilled, moreso his ATTITUDE. That dude wouldn't back down from anyone, and the way he just carried hisself gave off a vibe of toughness, kind of like Kareem Johnson who always looked like he just woke up. Evans and Cumberland and Washington just need to play meaner, if that makes any sense.

Evans had an excellent game Tuesday night and it seemed to lift the team. Had Cumberland been scoring at an expected level, this 15 point win could have been a 25 point blowout.
I'm going to remain optimistic that this team will work out these bugs in December. The talent is there to challenge for the AAC regular season and tournament. We should expect nothing less.

I'm glad Jacob isn't like Don Ruehl.

I love Eric Hicks, but his senior year, he was a bull in a China shop. Great for college hoops -- not so much for the NBA. Jacob moves without the ball as well or better than any Bearcat in the last 30 years. Evans is better off being Evans than trying to be something he isn't.

RE: If Jacob Evans had the mentality of Eric Hicks.
For Eric to play in the NBA he needed to be at least 6'8 instead of 6'5. Loved his mentality but I don't think it would work out for a perimeter player. Jacob seems to bring great effort like Eric did, if I had one wish for Jacob it would be to have more of a scorers mentality.
Basically he doesn't need to be more like Eric; for him to reach his full potential I'd like to see him play with a little more of SKs cut your throat out scorer's mentality.

I think the better discussion would be how much better the team would be if Jackson Bart had the mentality of Alex Meacham.

RE: If Jacob Evans had the mentality of Eric Hicks.
Let’s have some fun and turn it around. If Eric Hicks played Jacob Evans’ position he would have played NAIA ball. He couldn’t chew gum and dribble at the same time when he got here.
Perhaps Evans just needs to play the post?

Part of it is we compare our current sophmore's and juniors to players of our pasts best year, usually their senior year.
It's funny comparing advanced stats on Steve Logan vs Gary Clark, in the sense that they will likely say Gary Clark had the better UC career, but Logan's senior year was so dominant that he will be the better player in our minds. Jacob Evans could end up in the same boat.

Playing nearly the entire game. i know ppl have qualms with Mick's roster management but he also needs to learn how to use timeouts to get his players extended rest.

If I could be someone else, I''d be 6'3" , full head of hair, and be playing on the PGA tour. But I'm not. He's a great player, and improving every game..enjoy what he's doing..

6'3" and full head of hair is just a social construct....be who you feel you are.

I honestly can't think of a Bearcat that's had a better freshman/soph/ and jr year than him since Danny Fortson... well maybe Gary Clark.
These guys deserve a post season run.

We can debate Jacob Evans till we're blue in the face, but i would not lay the primary blame for either of the losses on him. There were other players in those two games who had bigger letdowns. If you're going to win away from home against top 25 teams, everyone has to show up and produce. Our margin for error is not as great as i think we had hoped. This team clearly has more offensive talent than we're used to, but defense has been somewhat of letdown at times as well.

This is a good point. Kyle Washington is not a good defensive player, and has repeated difficulties boxing out his man. Nysier Brooks has great defensive instincts, but is foul prone and unfortunately, remains a liability on offense. Jenifer is good in the press, but he will be at a significant disadvantage against the league's better guards, including those at Wichita, Houston, UCONN, Temple, SMU and Memphis. Broome is not good defensively at all. All in all, our offense MUST be more efficient, because this year's team is not as strong defensively as in years past.

For four years everyone wished Yancy Gates played more like Hicks. Ditto Gary Clark. Attitude is nearly impossible to teach and it's something you learn to play with throughout your entire life. It's not gonna happen overnight. And quite frankly, it probably never will.
