I was in Alabama last month, does that count? Jeff Sessions is my guess.

She killed herself because she had problems. Those problems stemmed in her head. No sane person willingly takes their own life. Life is hard, sure, but killing oneself is not the solution. If she killed herself because she was gay then how can you blame anyone for it. I didn't kill myself when OBlunder won, twice. I bided my time because I knew if God granted me life for 8 more years I'd see the day he couldn't run anymore. Blaming someone, especially someone you don't even know to run your life is not sanity.

Even though I am of Alabama blood and stock, my current opinion is irrelevant. The voters of the Great State of Alabama have spoken.

You're exactly right. Now, if only the Demons in this country would do the same in regards to Trump everything would be peachy. Remember the words, "Remember the Alamo?" Well, to the Demons it's "Remember he beat Killery," that's their rallying cry.

Yet here we are in 2017, Trump won the WH with over 300 electoral votes and the Repubs took control of both houses and 75% of state houses & governorships nation wide.

The fallacy is that Mensa is counting on all of the millennials to continue voting Democrat. A good number of people today who are under 30 will be switching their alliances once they start living on their own, getting married, raising children, buying homes, paying taxes and having careers. This is the way it has always been... The youth of the 60s and 70s (who are the old white people today) were saying the same thing back then about their predecessors.

When those dumb Republicans realize what a mess they made they'll be voting for Strange this time. Now's the time for the Demons to go find some bimbo from the gutter that needs money to accuse Strange too, because he'll be running for sure since Moore is tainted by alleged slander.

Don't be fooled. Doug Jones is a whiney far left liberal that was elected for one reason and one reason only: his opponent was accused of child molestion at the 11th hour.

There are no broader implications. There are no higher truths or trends involved here.

He is not a moderate and wil be run out on a rail in 2020.

The only difference is these little losers have been indoctrinated with how capitalism is bad and how awful America is and needs to be changed. They've never been told no and always gotten a trophy even for being the losers that they are. Most cant make it in the real world on their own so they live with their parents until age 30+. Its actually kind of frightening to think about an America with that bunch in charge. Think about what kind of silly rules, limitations, etc they might put in place to F it up for the rest of us.

Instead its a great democrat revolution in Alabama. What a bunch of idiots and sheep people have become.
I'd buy that except for Moore has shot himself in the foot twice before. Sheeple and idiots would be a legitimate claim if it was just the female allegation hype. Moore should never have been the nominee, but then again neither should have Luther Strange.

Good question, who the hell should have been the nominee?

Another question, Doug Jones seems by all accounts to be a decent person. But he had no chance against a wacko until these allegations came up. Given that, who in his right mind would want to be a candidate? And why?

Alabama is going through a purge. Everybody is getting replaced. Probably a few more months before a new crop of candidates emerge. Although I think there is an old name coming back to try and get the attorney general role I think. Can't remember the name off the top of my head. Seems we love to recycle candidates down here.

Troy King.

Oh dear God, that might be a VERY flawed candidate. Troy King could lose statewide too. I wouldn't be shocked by any number of truly explosive scandals erupting out of that case. I've heard that Troy King is going to try for his old seat back. I think that the GOP might do well to really vet that candidate.

Troy King lost reelection to Luther Strange in a GOP primary. Incumbents in Alabama don't normally lose to more moderate candidates in GOP primaries.

When Jones gets to D.C. and exposes himself as the far lefty he is you'll probably be able to run a stop sign on the Republican ticket and win for the next 20 years.

I don't know. I'm waiting to see if Jones pulls a Shelby to try to keep the seat. Shelby has proven time and again, particularly in this election, that he is a pseudo-conservative. I strongly suspect Jones will try the same ploy.

The problem here for the uninitiated in Alabama politics was that Luther Strange was held in strong suspicion by the electorate because of his shenanigans involving Bentley.

Because of that he was a weak candidate put up by the Republicans for this seat. Roy Moore had outside money poured into his campaign and knocked Luther out of the ticket. Then the outside money switched to Jones because Moore is controversial even in Alabama.

I felt that the Republican's failed to put forth an acceptable untainted name and the national PACs took advantage of the situation. So now we have a solid Clinton guy in the Senate because we had one shady dude (Luther), and one controversial and socially unacceptable guy (Moore) on the ticket in the primaries and then general election.

For those of us who live here you could see this setup coming a mile away. It's just sad.

Shelby (who backed Jones) got the Bammer votes and now has tenure. Jones will try to do the party switch to keep his seat, IMO. They are both representative of the left leanings of some of the old Dixie-crats. It will be a long three years.

***************

And Tom, this didn't have one damn thing to do with Trump. Strange and Moore were both extremely flawed candidates. Jones's coalition was simply disgusted Republicans and write ins to express disapproval and stay homes were the deciding factor. All it indicated about Trump was that his advisers are idiots. A smart politician would have never uttered a peep about this race once the candidates were set. Even if Moore had won the Republicans were going to be in for a pounding because of his deficits. If there was ever a lose / lose scenario for Republicans in the State this was it. And the lesson that should be learned is that Alabama's Republican Party needs a leadership overhaul.

Read that Brit Hume last night said there was no way for the Republicans to win, no matter who won the election. Probably best for the Republicans that Moore is behind them.

That makes a lot of sense. Hume is as non-partisan as it comes, I believe.

Lazybrook: Tom, this had nothing to do with Trump, and everything to do with Moore being a tainted candidate even though the allegations of sexual assault against him have yet to be proven. Jones won because Moore ended up being a bad candidate even without the allegations, plain and simple. (At least in my humble and honest opinion.)

I saw a tweet that said if last night's voting results were for statewide House seats, the Republicans still would have won 6 of the 7 House seats in Alabama (so the Democrats would have won just 1 despite getting 21,000 more votes than the Republicans).

That just shows you how tough it will be to win back the House next year. The Senate is definitely within reach at least.

Problem with the senate for democrats is that they have so many more seats up than republicans, so it will be harder for them simply to hold the ones they have. Remember, these incumbents rods in on Obama's coattails in 2012.

23 of 33 are Democrat seats. But I'd say 15 of those are pretty safe for the incumbents (barring a Roy Moore type accusation). The battleground states will be West Virginia (D), Tennessee ®, Pennsylvania (D), Ohio (D), Arizona ®, North Dakota (D), Nevada ®, Florida (D), Indiana (D), Missouri (D) and Montana (D). Possibly Texas too ® but I'll keep that in the safe zone for now.

Nevada could flip but the Democrats will need to hold serve and then get one more to flip (probably Arizona). It's not going to be easy but it's still an easier path than the House.

Right. The Republicans almost certainly gain seats in the Senate. The Democrats have a chance in the House.

They certainly do. The GOP is going to need to pick up a few blue districts that Trump has made them competitive in
