The stadium looks really impressive from an aerial view. I can't wait to see shots of it on gamedays when it's packed.

In regards to the NEZ, is there still any truth to the rumor I think I read here saying admin are pushing to tear it down and make it a flat space like the Columbus Crew stadium did in the "end zone"?

Combination of regular seating and student entertainment / gathering space.

I hope this is just a rumor. We've been getting ACC talent transferring to our house. Making the NEZ a flat plain is worst then what we have now. They need to close it up and continue building the bowl!

I agree. If this is what the vision is for that space I will be extremely disappointed.

My dream situation for the NEZ would be to close in at least the lower bowl and build a second level above it, even if it doesn't connect to the upper half.

Agreed. Close in the bowl at least on the lower level and put a nice elevated scoreboard over it so there is a perception of height and it will help keep sound in too. Im just not impressed at all with the new scoreboard. Square scoreboards stuck in the corners down low just seem very high school to me. I would have been OK with the old board a couple more years if it meant getting something like the size and orientation of Liberty's.

Y'all do realize that creating a pregame area for students and making a horeshoe isn't mutually exclusive?

As for the board, it will be moved behind the NEZ when it's rebuilt.

If they do something like the cowboys do with their ground level end zone suites, or something like the beer garden under the gameday building I'd be on board with that, I just don't want it to solely be a flat entertainment space

Could they could build an earthen berm to finish the horseshoe with seats at the bottom, some picnic seating above the seats on the hill and maybe some pavilion or something for some food carts, beer sales etc at the top? The only issue with that plan is you couldn't put new locker rooms underneath it. Though maybe with the new club space being added, the old Big Blue Room area in the GDB can be used to expand the current lorckerrooms.

I flew all the way from Seattle to check out the stadium today and I was really impressed! It's not huge, but it presents really well and looks like it will be very nice when finished. Like others have said, something akin to the football version of the Ted. Well done, ODU.

*Ok, I didn't fly in to check out the stadium. I came to town on business. But this is the internet and everything we say here is gospel! :-)

No to any berm. Just build it right not cheap.

If they were to pitch a horseshoe for the NEZ would they have to move the new light pole $$$ 05-stirthepot If they kept the light pole in place for the horseshoe NEZ would it be a ringer or a leaner? 07-coffee3 05-deadhorse

The only light pole that could be impacted by a horseshoe design is in the NW corner. It would almost certainly be a leaner.

Did Selig say what he's going to do with the old scoreboard? Are they moving it over to the Field Hockey or Soccer complex?

Didnt know where else to put this. According to this article https://athlonsports.com/college-footbal...-jobs-2019 ODU spends $13 million dollars per year more on football than any other CUSA team. That sounds crazy to me, and if true, why aren't our facilities, coaches and on field performance in at least the top three or four in the conference?

It's probably an accounting thing dictated by how each state allocates athletic funds

That's wrong. Those figures refer to entire athletic budget. Our entire football budget isn't 13 million.

Got an update on the NEZ today. It's projected to cost $9mm. It took 18 months to raise the $10mm for the east and west stands. Fundraising for the NEZ won't begin until phase 1 is complete. It'll likely be 2-3 seasons before the NEZ is completed, in my estimation.

Thanks for the update ! Exactly what I was told 2 months ago. I was told it was about $6m but that was before the cost of relocating scoreboard etc. Do not expect anything to begin before 2022/2023 season. They are hoping for corporate donation to be a sponsor of the student event / gather space.

RE: NEW stadium construction
Any word on what they want it to be like? Seems like a rendering would help sell the vision. Also any word on why they seem to have removed much of the Monarch signage and dressing from the stadium? It couldn’t have cost that much and really made the place look cooler and hid the cheap erector set from view. I hope they put it back.
