It's really taking shape. I hope they are able to do something about the N end zone next offseason. It should be priority #1 on continued expansion/renovation.

That won't happen. With the NEZ being paid for with 100% private funds, it will take a little while to get the money raised. And they still need to get state approval to use that money. 2 years minimum and 3 years is my guess.

The stadium looks really impressive from an aerial view. I can't wait to see shots of it on gamedays when it's packed.

In regards to the NEZ, is there still any truth to the rumor I think I read here saying admin are pushing to tear it down and make it a flat space like the Columbus Crew stadium did in the "end zone"?

RE: NEW stadium construction
How many people have had their seats in the end zone at one time or another?

I think the games in August and September are going to be hot as Hades in the new stadium. At least the old concrete structure acted as something of a heat sink. With this being all metal the heat could be reflected back into the crowd. I do not think the added height and shade from the press box will be sufficient cooling. I hope the brick superstructure will help, but I'm very concerned about this. I sat in the endzone for one year and at times the temperatures were intolerable.

I had season tix in the ez for 2 seasons and we really enjoyed it. Was down about 10 rows up. The right side of my face was lit up after the NH game that's for sure but it didn't feel any hotter on those bleachers vs my seats on the west side the last 4 seasons regarding radiant heat from the sun. Just the direct sunlight on your face was all. Hat solves that.

I actually requested to be moved from the sidelines to the end zone the last two years I had season tickets. I made the mistake of originally getting the lower level sideline seats too close to the field. I couldn't see over the players standing on the sideline. The end zone seats were my best bet to actually be able to see the game at the time.

If its a hot day, though I don't think it matter where you're sitting, IMO. Unless you're in the beer room.

I had end zone seats for one season. I hated them. They were cramped, the sightlines were awful and there were way too many obnoxious drunk people. But that was when we sold out every game too.

Most of that will be going towards phase 1.

Then we should be able to finance some, or sell bonds for the rest. I would imagine the end zone would be in the $10 million range since its smaller and needs far fewer bells and whistles. UAB just got much more than that for naming rights to their stadium. If Judy would get us a real media deal that paid 1 million per school, we could pay it off in a decade.

That would be correct if the $30 million was already in hand. But a lot of it's pledged. The biggest gifts are usually pledged over a period of ten years.

Combination of regular seating and student entertainment / gathering space.

App State, Georgia Southern, JMU, W&M and Richmond didn't have a gameday building and parking deck like this and yet were able to sustain football. They've since made inprovements but didn't have these amenities in their long histories up til recently.

The suites and locker room could have been included into the grandstands. I think seats should have been the priority. They had the waiting list back then.

Suites and locker rooms could not have been built into the grand stands unless we did what we're doing now. Sure suites on the sidelines would have been preferable but we had a stadium already on campus.

I meant included in a south endzone project which would have a combination of suites and seats.

RE: NEW stadium construction
Honestly I don’t have a problem with what was built in 2009. The game day building is fine. But it should have gone in the north endzone. If the north endzone is your most constricted in terms of expansion then you put the game day building there because it has the smallest footprint. Also the parking deck should have gone where the blue lot is now. If that was the case we would be looking at doing a SEZ project in the next couple years that would have much more freedom and would look great from 49th/Hampton blvd. Oh well that game day building will be outdated one day, and we will have a nice SEZ in the future

Makes sense except there was no seating on the south side. We would have lost thousands of seats putting it on the north end unless we built a nice south endzone at the same time

Hindsight is 20/20, as is said. At the time Foreman Field was originally renovated there was nothing proven that FCS football would take off at ODU as it did, and even less of an inkling that the program would move to FBS within a which a short period. A lot had to happen in a small amount of time on a tight budget. IMO they did a great job with the original renovation givin the limitations in terms of money and FCS estimates.

No doubt. Foreman Field was one of the best stadiums in FCS with one of the best fanbases and one of the best conferences. In FBS, not so much.

I hope this is just a rumor. We've been getting ACC talent transferring to our house. Making the NEZ a flat plain is worst then what we have now. They need to close it up and continue building the bowl!

RE: NEW stadium construction
I was commuting to work this morning and stopped to look at CenturyLink Field (which is next to train station)

I noticed the similarities between the Hawk's Nest (which is also the North Endzone) and our NEZ. Aluminum construction, which is flat/planar with no concavity, and no chair backs.

Works for the Sea-chickens!

I agree. If this is what the vision is for that space I will be extremely disappointed.

My dream situation for the NEZ would be to close in at least the lower bowl and build a second level above it, even if it doesn't connect to the upper half.

Going to take more than a new sound system to make Ankerson intelligible I'm afraid.
