RE: NEW stadium construction
If we get something much better by waiting another year, then its definitely worth it. Its just a shame they couldn't have figured all of this out over the last 5 years. It seems like they are grasping at straws to make something decent at the last minute. I hate that all of the buzz and fanfare of the new stadium will happen when its really only 75% completed. That said, I like the idea of moving the scoreboard very much, and raised bleachers with a concourse, stage and tailgate area for students sounds great too. I'd be a bit miffed that they left the nasty old bleachers there for me if I was a student. Whatever they do, it will still need to seat 6,000 people. Hopefully it wraps the corners some to hold in sound and look better. If its shorter, it may not cost as much to install the new board either.

RE: NEW stadium construction
So the north end zone will eliminate all traditional seating and instead we will have a deck? ...I don't think I like the sound of that

I think they just mean elevated seating.

There will have to be seating for 5-6k in the end zone somehow. Otherwise our stadium will only hold 15,000 fans. No way VT et al are coming to a stadium that small. Im still shocked they're coming with 21,000 seats. I think it would be wonderful if somehow they managed to pull that off for the grand opening next season.

RE: NEW stadium construction
That is what I am confused about. If the north endzone is no good for next season you lose 5k. Rumor is there will be a student tailgate but the stands wont come down til after next year. So there will be a bunch of students in that area but cant sit in the seats? I just dont see how that will work. I could be off but that is the info I have put together from peoples comments.

If they go that direction, the stands should come down this offseason. Despite hearing differently, it makes zero sense to not include the bleachers in the demo if they won't be used.

I completely agree. That would be the biggest eyesore ever.

Plus it can help put that section to use quicker as that student tailgate.

So this is weird question but could students drink at the student tailgate? Im pretty sure they do at the Charlotte student tailgates.

So, are you saying that Charlotte provides their students with alcohol? I find that hard to believe.

Im not saying they provide it but I have heard from people and seen videos (that I cant find) of students drinking in their tailgate village.

Charlotte allows students to buy tailgating passes.

This isn't the same thing. We're offering entertainment and refreshments to students pregame inside the stadium.

I'm just saying, removing all bleachers/stands/etc in the end zone to make way for an elevated viewing platform is going to look very small time... I don't like this idea

I must be thinking of something different. I envision bleacher seating for 5000 people hopefully wrapping around into the corners. All of that seating would be raised so there is a party area underneath. An "elevated viewing platform" that is flat and all one level, with no seating wouldn't hold nearly enough people.

RE: NEW stadium construction
As long as this endzone doesn’t look like that awful stage end you see at early soccer specific stadiums MLS was pimping (see Columbus, Dallas, and Chicago) we will be OK. I don’t care how you dress it up or nuts the students get, a big concrete void with a band shell and scoreboard at one end will look terrible. If we can’t do the endzone right this year wait until 2020 to move the scoreboard.

RE: NEW stadium construction
What I don’t understand is why the current north endzone seating has been deemed not suitable. It seems very late in the game for that call, plus it has been in every Phase 1 plan that has come out. I get not wanting to put money into it but I would think it could last one more offseason.

RE: NEW stadium construction
I think it boils down to a couple of forcing functions...1) getting students into the game and stadium by bringing them into the main part of the stadium and 2) creating a space to generate revenue and bring students together in a central place priori to the game to generate more engagement.

Reading this thread I think it's safe to say no one among us really knows what's going to happen and the more we talk about it the more confused many of us get.
I'm going to wait and see.

Exactly why ODU needs to release more renderings and information about the stadium.
