Cool. I have a 1/2 barrel of Old Style on hold at Binny's if it's ok.

A 1/2 barrel is kind of like a can, right?
Well, it's certainly not a bottle!

RE: NIU vs DUKE
Duke just posted a practice video and it sure seems like they will be ready to play on the 26th. Mentioned they are trying to win back to back bowl games for the first time in program history. I really hope NIU shows up for this game.

It sure doesn’t feel like we are. Last time we were in a bowl we got massacred. Well, against Marshall as well. At the same time we were getting our a$$ handed to us by Marshall CMU won an epic game against EKU, who was the only team to beat Marshall that year. Hope we come to play and represent the university a lot better than we have been... Doubt it based on the trend but I’ll watch and hope for the best anyways.

Actually, CMU played WKU not EKU and CMU lost that game 49-48.

Howdy, Duke fan here. Happy to answer any questions about our team to the extent I can!
Look forward to the trip to Detroit. We started 4-0, dropped 6 straight, then had big upset wins against Georgia Tech and at Wake Forest to earn bowl eligibility. We will see what team shows up in the Bowl.
Our coach has a a lot of respect for your program, and the extended run of bowl appearances is impressive. Good luck, and may the game be injury-free!

I'll admit I don't watch much Duke football. What is your basic offensive/defensive scheme?
How's your run defense?

Our defense has been the most consistent part of our year. Run defense has been strong. Defense overall good although we have given up some big explosive plays. Mainly play a 4-2-5.
Offensively, we have a good run game but there is some frustration that we go away from it for no good reason. Two pretty good backs, Sean Wilson (speed) and Brittain Brown (power). We pass to the flats a bunch. Deep ball, inconsistent. QB Daniel Jones is a really good runner and is big; QB read option runs are a big part of the offense. Receivers a mixed bag, T.J. Rahming being the favorite target I guess. Will keep a quick pace when we can. Play lots of formations, mainly one back or open backfield.
Kicking, out punter/FG kicker just got kicked off the team. Special teams usually a strength with Coach Cutcliffe but inconsistent this year. Imagine we will have Parker Boehme punting, who has played some QB for us.
It looks like y’all have a stout defense. Sutton Smith is obviously the real deal. I have seen some comments about QB draws on the board, but what is your offense like?
Thanks, and good luck to both teams!

Travel safe, good luck to both teams! Will be playing poker at Greektown after the game, happy to buy you a beer but hope they are comped at the casino!

You wanna move to Georgia? I grew up in the snow (Connecticut), moved south for college and stayed. As they say down here, a “Yankee” is someone from the north — but a “Damn Yankee” is someone from the North who stayed!
I prefer “carpetbagger” frankly but you don’t get to pick your slurs I guess.

Our D sounds like your D.
Our offense sounds a lot like your offense.
Punting average to above. FG under pressure often a ? mark.

Yeah, best I can tell the teams roughly mirror each other. Should make for a good game. I imagine you should have a home field advantage given the location.
In any event, glad we get the extra practices and a Bowl is always fun. No competing game on tv. A chance for us to play a program that has shown consistent quality to get to bowls. A chance to explore a new part of the country. Poker at the casino.
All good!

What did the Blue Devils do offensively to pound Northwestern into oblivion?

Our QB Daniel Jones threw for 300+ yards and two TDs, and ran for two TDs as well. He is a big kid. We were pretty efficient on third downs that game, and had over a 2:1 advantage in time of possession.
Northwestern turned the ball over three times too, which helped.
I wish I could say that we maintained that sort of play throughout the season but we didn’t. I am hoping that the last two games helped right the ship.
Who are the big action guys on the offensive side that I should look out for? Already worried about Sutton on the other side.

RE: NIU vs DUKE
Huff is our biggest threat he's had three 100+ rushing games with 185 his career high. He should get a look from the NFL and could be a late round pick but he missed half the games with injuries. Our QB is a red shirt freshman who has played like a freshman after taking over the starting role in week 5. He's got a decent arm and runs well but has not been a big play threat with his arm or his leg. Was hoping he'd have a couple break out games but he really hasn't. He did lead a couple come from behind victories against EMU and WMU but he came up short when we had oppotunities against Toledo and CMU. We don't appear to have a big play guy in our receiving corps but Blake, Tears, and Beebe are reliable. We just don't have the NFL talent like we've had the last 15 years. Boy were we ever spoiled with Golladay, TLL, Brown, Palmer, Hill, Fleck, Sheldon, McCariens...

Our teams sound like mirrors. We have two solid RBs, Wilson (fast/shifty) and Brown (power). Redshirt soph. QB who had flashes of wonderful and flashes of not passing, but is an excellent runner and is big. Rahming leads the receiver corps which has been inconsistent. Lots of passes to the backs and short screens wide. Special teams, usually strong under Coach Cutcliffe, have really struggled this year.
Both defenses have been the strengths of the teams it seems. Our whole squad is solid on that side, although we have given up some big plays on blown assignments.
O line okay, D line a pleasant surprise this year. Rely on a bunch of blitzes to augment. D secondary on the small side but really really quick.
Looks like the teams are pretty even. We probably played a little stronger level of competition over the season, but y’all played your schedule better than we did ours.
Should be fun. Lots of respect for your program from those of us down here.
Should be fun!

I just want to know if Coach K will be in attendance? You know.... for support and stuff. Maybe a Christian Laetner sighting or Kyrie Irving? Asking for a friend

Yeah, really looking forward to it. I'm sure Cutcliffe will develop/recruit an NFL caliber QB soon with his reputation and results. I'm sure Peyton and Eli will get him a QB.
