This type of stuff kills the conversation on race
http://www.breitbart.com/tech/2017/11/29...omination/

Quote:“When I think of all the white people I have ever encountered – whether they’ve been professors, peers, lovers, friend, police officers, et cetera – there is perhaps only a dozen I would consider ‘decent,’” Martinez continued.

The piece was titled “Your DNA is an abomination,” and ran under a genre header simply labeled, “whiteness.” A photograph of the column from the newspaper was provided to the media by former Texas Tech student body president Andrew Homann.

I can't link the article since it has since been scrubbed from the university newspaper website.

Quote:In the Nov. 28 issue of The University Star, we published an opinions column titled “Your DNA is an abomination.” The column has received widespread criticism from readers, with many expressing that they find the author’s ideas to be racist. The University Star’s opinion pages are a forum for students to express and debate ideas. While our publication does not endorse every opinion put forth by student columnists or guest contributors, as the editor I take responsibility for what is printed on our pages.
The original intent of the column was to comment on the idea of race and racial identities. We acknowledge that the column could have been clearer in its message and that it has caused hurt within our campus community. We apologize and hope that we can move forward to a place of productive dialogue on ways to bring our community together.

Haha...now the editor falls back into the traditional role of the university to let controversial ideas come to the front for discussion and debate. Too bad this gets ignored when the controversy comes from the right.

If you guys want to know why people don't take the conversation seriously - read the crap this Martinez tried to write and that's why.

Is this the type of stuff that makes people ashamed to be white? Should be water off a ducks back. Hate makes the world go round. Asians hate Asians. Latinos hate Latinos. Embrace the hate. 05-stirthepot

Here's another problem with the culture of today and our "connectedness" - Before the internet, the days of anything any idiot said/wrote, I'm sure that many university newspapers had some pretty outlandish "Letters to the Editor" submitted and printed. Although I can't remember any specifically, I remember when I would read my school's newspaper and often remark, "what an idiot that guy/gal was" after reading ridiculous viewpoint.

My point is, this silly stuff has always been around university campuses, but today the stuff gets picked up and blasted nationwide and all too often gets passed off as - "this is what a big percentage of people think".

Before, idiots could spew display their stupidity, but it was only to a small group. Today, we blast it nationwide to garner some clicks push a narrative........

Racism is about the receiver of communication not the sender of communication. It's about what an individual is hearing and seeing not about what an individual is saying or doing.

Does anyone have a photo of this clown? I bet his DNA is majority European.

Martinez argued that "white death will mean liberation for all," and that those who identify as white should "accept this death as the first step toward defining (themselves) as something other than the oppressor."

As is well documented those who want genocide are on the left.

Well there shouldn't be a conversation with that person. He's a hate filled moron. And with a name like Martinez, he is probably "white."

I get all that. However, university campuses today are not the same as they were back when we graduated and definitely not a generation before that. On it's own, I don't give 2 sh!ts what this guy believes nor that he was published in the university paper. Unfortunately, it's no longer a springboard into discussion. The deeper problem is that the opposite view would be shut down by the university and not given the same courtesy of consideration as this view. Couple that with the current status of your typical college campus atmosphere that thinks that certain groups of people are oppressive simply because they exist...this type of garbage is taken much more seriously today than it would have been when EVERYONE on campus was given the benefit of the doubt and allowed to debate/discuss viewpoints without being painted as a monster.

Quote:Another Texas State student who is very interested in politics has a whole different view. Rudy Martinez, a 25-year-old philosophy junior, says that he identifies himself with the Communist party. Martinez is registered to vote but did not because his preferred candidate, Bernie Sanders, did not make the primary election. Because of Martinez’s interest in politics he likes to discuss them with others.

When asked how he approaches politics with others who have different political views Martinez said, “Aggressive but still reason and logic and just looking for debate with the hopes they can see where I’m coming from.”

Communication dynamics.

Sender sends message. Message experiences interference
(Examples include: situation/timing/medium/audience). Receiver receives message.

He seems like what I would imagine Fit looks like. He thinks like him anyway. Where's the safe space for white conservative people?

Fishing streams and the woods apparently due to privilege.
