Venable currently makes $1.7million, and Morris makes about $2million. Both of those guys could probably be had for a million per year less than Norvell, and those are the guys the boosters like.

I also wouldnt rule out Leach to Arkansas.
Just remember that SMU paid $3 million for June Jones....and Morris is a keeper from SMU compared to what happened with Jones. He is another one who will not be cheap. SMU has deep pockets.

That is understatement. I have a client who does not well but is not uber rich. His son went to SMU and the parents went down to SMU for some sort of parent day and he came and was in awe of the line of expensive cars in the lots... Said he was almost embarrassed to pull up in his Lexus...

To either come up with more money or the inclination to pay more money - to match what we have on the table. The other possibility is Norvell is happy to play second-choice to Malzahn ... Ark has told him he's their #2 and they're waiting on Malzahn's people to definitively tell them "No". And Norvell is OK with waiting. I suppose he can also be waiting for another good job to open as some of these other dominoes are still falling, but not sure how realistic he is to these other emerging openings. There is really no downside to him waiting though, is there ?

Or, he's waiting (on us or on Arky) because Sexton is advising him to do so. Sexton knows exactly which cards everyone at the table is holding. And you can bet he will maximize that leverage for all of his clients.

If you had this info (which you don't because let's be honest, it's not like you're sitting at the bar was Coach Norvell and he's spilling his guts to you about hopes and dreams) then you would not be so vague and self-indulgent about it. Why would an anonymous message board poster's idea of what school Norvell wants to be at one day be a secret?

Unless of course Arkansas (as many in-the-know people have stated publicly already) is a/the school CMN would take if offered, no questions asked. You say it's not his dream school, fair enough. But, that only means there is one or multiple other jobs that CMN would take and Arkansas is certainly one of them.

It is not weird to be okay if our football coach leaves to coach Auburn or TX AM but disappointed if he leaves to coach arky or utk? Is it? Having little to do with their proximity and more to do with their stature?

If this was 2001 leaving for utk would seem to make more sense right? Maybe even 2007?

Sounds like Thamel and Wolken both DMing with Jimmy Sexton. Morris coached at several high school in East and Central Texas. I think Norvell is a better coach than Morris. Again surprised Jerry Jones and others are able to push this hire on Arkansas - 14-22 overall and 8-16 in conference in 3 season in the AAC.

Pete Thamel‏Verified account @PeteThamel 2m2 minutes ago

Source: SMU coach Chad Morris has emerged as Arkansas top target. Expect a decision in next 24 hours.

Dan Wolken‏Verified account @DanWolken 18m18 minutes ago

The name that has been buzzing along with the Arkansas search today is Chad Morris. Things have been moving quickly today. Should hear soon.

Original Morris to Arkansas thread. Some things have changed - btiger and bluto banned. Some things haven't - Morris still can't coach. 8-16 at SMU and got the Arky job.
