They need to remove the human element from the whole damn thing. It's supposed to be unbiased but there is no way it is. I've sat on committees for rankings; the loudest, most influential people almost always get their way.

If you do not play in your own conference title game there is no way in hell you should be allowed to play in National Championship series.
I concur (unless they are far and away the most deserving choice).

Let’s make up a complex computer formula to decide the rankings. We’ll call it the BCS. I bet it’ll work flawlessly.

True...computers are only as flawless as the people who program them and enter the data. The only system remotely close to being flawless would be to expand the playoff to 8 teams and invite the five P5 conference champions, the highest ranked G5 conference champion, and the two highest ranked at large teams.
Oh, but that would extend the season by a whopping ONE weekend...we can't do that to the student-athletes.
Sigh.

The human element in control even with their biases ‘know’ who the best teams are....they just would rather ‘choose’ the best teams whether by hand count or a select computer program

RE: #20 in the CFP Ranking
I think this is a bad year. I think a G5 team could make it assuming they went undefeated and started out in the top 25 , collected a big scalp early like beating a top 10-15 team, and then had another ranked team in conference that ALSO got a big scalp early to prove their quality and then one of them beat the other. If you had that scenario they might get the nod over 2 loss teams if the big scalps performed well otherwise.
But a lot of dominoes have to fall your way

RE: #20 in the CFP Ranking
The AAC can buy 10,000 spray cans and plaster Power 6 over whatever they want, it is not going to change biased people's opinions. The product on the field isn't going to change the perception either, unless there is sustained success by 1 or 2 programs. Unfortunately that is just as unlikely because it's impossible to maintain continuity when the leagues top coaches are getting plundered this time every year.

A school like Memphis or UCF would need to go undefeated AND play likely three and at least two large conference opponents, beat them, and then hope they have really good years.

Have to schedule all P5 out of conference opponents and beat them to have a shot.

This has been my thought for a long time. Champions should gain entry first, then you can fill-in a couple of at-large teams based on computer rankings or a committee. After all, if you are not your conference champion, it is hard to stake a claim for being the national champion. If a conference champion gets stomped in the first-round, that is fine...they had their chance to win or lose ON THE FIELD. Of course, this does not necessarily maximize TV ratings and dollars which is unfortunately the number one objective instead of fairly determining the national champion.

Good luck accomplishing that, though. You'd be lucky to get one to be a home game each year and if you were actually a strong program, the P5s would avoid you altogether because it is too big of a risk.

I’m inclined to think the TV revenue generated by an 8-team FBS playoff would make the TV revenue generated by the NCAA basketball tournament look paltry.

U want to move up, drop the l.a Monroe, southern Illinois, ga.southern from the ooc schedule and adD a Indiana, maryland, North Carolina, beating these schools will give us more cred.
Now let's beat cfu and win the bowl game, u gotta admit the AAC wasn't loaded with power house teams this yr

Therein lies the rub. Have to schedule upper level P5 teams to have a chance yet no upper level P5 teams will schedule a home-and-home series.
It’s good to be the king.

RE: #20 in the CFP Ranking
I understand that our schedule may not have been as difficult as some but there were some good teams we played too. I think Navy played ND tough but look how they fared in our conf. Was the ND game a fluke for them or perhaps were the AAC teams actually pretty good? If you had all 5 star guys on your team, played in the Sunbelt, and went undefeated would that mean you aren't elite? (no) If we played in the Pac 12 how many losses do you think we would have? I think that league has some good teams but none that are elite. I think both UCF and Mem are getting a raw deal. To end my soap box... are the rankings such that Mem cannot move up much by beating UCF or UCF move up much because we are not ranked high enough to bump them?

The AAC had 4 different teams ranked this year. One team is undefeated and we have only 1 loss, it's not exactly a "down year"
