I don't see Jimbo leaving for a smaller contract, to compete in the SEC West, with weaker recruiting, only to have them call for his head after 3 years of not beating Bama or going to the CFP. If anything sways him, it will be his kid's health issues.

What makes you think that A/M, which can buy and sell FSU about 10 times over and is awash in SEC money, would offer Jimbo less money than FSU?

Jimbo has definitely allowed other SEC schools to pursue him in order to leverage more money out of FSU, without ever being serious about leaving. His thinking was "why leave FSU, where things are perfect, to compete against the Saban meat-grinder"?

But the last two years have made one thing clear: In Dabo Swinney and Clemson, the ACC now has its own meat-grinder. Clemson has definitely de-throned FSU as the undisputed King of the ACC, something they've been the entire 25 years of membership, even during the relatively lean last few years of the Bowden era.

And now with Miami coming on strong? Jimbo might be figuring that now's the time to git while the gittin's still good.

The rumored contract is $7.5M per year for 5 years. That's less than his current contract at FSU ($40+M over 8 years). It's fully guaranteed, so he's unfire-able for at least 6 years, maybe 7.

If the A&M contract was fully guaranteed, that's a wash -- he'll get almost the same money over 3 less years. But it's still a downgrade of a job. The ACC offers a much easier path the championship and FSU has better recruiting to get there.

You do know how do divide and add don't you? 40 million over 8 years is 5 million a year. 7.5 million per year for 5 years is 7.5 million a year every year. So in 5 years he's making 37.5 million at A&M while it takes him 8 years to make 40 million at F.S.U.

3 years of your life does not constitute a wash! If Jimbo wanted to retire earlier A&M is the way to go. And their financial situation is 2 x plus better than F.S.U.'s. It is hardly a downgrade. In terms of N.Championships yes it is a downgrade, but in every other metric it's not, unless you are a millennial and don't know the depth of the Aggies history compared to the former all female Teachers college in Tallahassee. Prior to Bowden's arrival in '77 F.S.U. had only been coed for about 20 years and was mostly on par with Sun Belt schools in terms of football history. Since Bowden they've become a national brand, but still don't pull the numbers in their home state that Florida pulls. While Aggie is #2 in Texas they are just as well positioned as F.S.U. within a huge state with lots of recruits and having the SEC brand in that state has helped them.

To put it into perspective Aggie students had kidnapped Bevo and served him up as brisket to Longhorn fans long before a man set foot on the campus of what would become Florida State.

First, using your numbers, the A/M deal is for a lot more money, and second, no, going from FSU to TAMU isn't regarded by anyone as a 'downgrade' of a job. TAMU is better than FSU in every way except for results on the field the last 30 years. And no, Florida recruiting isn't any better than Texas recruiting. In most years, Texas is #1 and Florida #2 in terms of the percentage of 4- and 5- star players produced.

Plus - and frankly on local Baton Rouge radio this has scared the hell out of LSU fans - from his time at LSU, JF knows the Louisiana high school system very well and with east Texas being closer, geographically and culturally, than FSU, he could easily make recruiting inroads here as well. He won't have any less access to talent at TAMU.

That's not to say I'm 100% sure he's leaving. The FSU situation is a great one and it has the advantage of incumbency, so it won't surprise me if he stays. But i think the threat of him leaving is very real this time, unlike in times past.
