Serious question, what do they add to this conference? Average to bad in football, and trending down. Average to bad in hoops, and trending down. Small market. Tiny fan base.

RE: Tulsa
I think the conference should have approached Rice and asked for a financial commitment to athletics (facilities) for admittance to the AAC. Rice has the athletic history, name, elite academics, major market and the money to get it done.

UH would’ve vetoed that in a heartbeat.
Tulsa had a great run in football while a C-USA member. They’ll get it together.

Tulsa was, and still is, investing in their athletics more than other regional schools. They just need to axe Haith & their football team needs to finish rebuilding.

RE: Tulsa
Frank Haith is horrible.
Everywhere he has gone he has turned a decent program to sh....t. He won (barely) with someone elses recruits. His guys are awful.
Im holding out hope that he gets drunk and pisses in front of a bunch of donors and gets fired.
I dont know how long our retard AD will keep him.
I hate everything about the University of Tulsa except for our glorious Gazebo.

Didn't Tulsa finish 1st in the AAC in the Director's Cup last year?
Anything that can be said about Tulsa football can also be said about Smoo football.

smoo football probably invests more than any team in the AAC. i think his point was that tulsa has a low cieling
but tulsa will bounce back..this is a bad year...but i doubt there are many g5 teams with the combined win percentage in football and basketball that tulsa has the last 15 years

er...no. Tulsa does more with less than any school I know. It would be interesting to see what they could do, with adequate financing.

It's an AAC tradition to throw an underperforming school under the bus.

It’s because every school in this conference is fighting for survival. Every school in the AAC would turn their back on the other schools for a better opportunity. We all know that. There are no 3-5 year plans. Maybe three years ago, which is why I think approaching Rice back then and pushing them to commit to athletics would’ve been the play for the AAC.

sorry if I implied it. Tulsa was investing more than the other schools that were being evaluated for American membership. Obviously other schools in the AAC West invest more.

I really like Rice and live 4 blocks away. I attend games from time-to-time and have tons of friends that are Rice grads. Trust me when I tell you, nobody cares. They draw 5,000 to football games and maybe 100 students. The MOB is down to about 50 members and most of them are weirdos from the neighborhood (anyone can join the Rice band). Basketball is even worse and I say this as a Houston season ticket holder. I've been to Rice men's games with 100 people in the building.

I don’t doubt that at all. It is similar to SMU with football. 95% of SMU alums don’t care about playing UCF, Tulsa, ECU and Temple even if we are winning. Nothing against those schools, but the older alums 45+ remember playing Texas, Texas A&M, T Tech, TCU, Baylor, Rice and Houston in games that mattered. Hard to get those people interested, or to care about a game against USF to get to the potato bowl.
Rice has the same issue but even worse in the watered down C-USA. I’m sure most of their older, more wealthy alums have no interest in committing money and time to programs playing against FIU, MTSU and UNT.
