RE: Hampton rumored to leave MEAC to go to Big South
Since we have some posters who want their fantasy of a new FBS conference indulged:
Say in a few years the MEAC is in danger of losing most of its members as budget problems continue to mount at a number of institutions. Could the MEAC repurpose itself as a home for say, 8/14 of C-USA?
MEAC:
Marshall
Old Dominion
Charlotte
Florida Atlantic
Florida International
Western Kentucky
Middle Tennessee
UAB
6 holdovers from the MEAC (but for only one year), all non-FBS
This puts the MEAC at 14 for the transition year. The six remaining HBCUs depart the following year, and then the MEAC can flesh out its new lineup as a G6 conference.
C-USA and/or the Sun Belt restock to 10 members.
The holdover year keeps the MEAC’s tournament credits with the conference, plus, the mass departure from C-USA causes C-USA credits to revert to the schools that earned them. The remaining original MEAC members are then paid to go away (Division II, the SWAC, Atlantic Sun - it doesn’t really matter where).

The Hampton President had comments about the Big South move in this article:

North Carolina A&T's football stadium seats 21,500. They could have a new image, and improved by going to FBS.
Tennessee State might follow Jacksonville State and Eastern Kentucky to the A-Sun or MEAC.
Norfolk State's stadium seats 30,000. It would be a shame if the stadium goes down to D2.
South Carolina State's stadium seats 22,000.
Norfolk State might be able to host a Bowl game in the future.
Other known HBCU FBS size stadiums?
Florida A&M
Jackson State
Alabama State
Southern U.
Alcorn State
Texas Southern
Alabama A&M
Grambling
Hampton U.
UAPB
Maybe some of these schools need to be saved by going to another conference. Some could be FBS if they want to be to attract new students.

Many of these schools are barely staying afloat, so you want them to lose MORE money?

I am not saying all of them, but I am saying that some could get noticed more if they move to another conference, and grow like Tennessee State.
Norfolk State, Tennessee State, Jackson State, Alabama State, Bethune-Cookman, Howard, Florida A&M, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina Central and Southern could move to a new conference, and the rest moves down to D2.
