Let's not derail this thread, the OP was a good topic to start.

I think we should list marquee games...some people are just listing P5 schools. Alabama, Nebraska, Kstate etc are NOT marquee basketball games.

Yup. That's why I didn't list Auburn.

Bama is #26 (highest received votes) in the CBS poll and 21 in SI's. You would have to call this a marquee matchup. K-State is more of a top 50-60 range and I think if anyone in the AAC beats a top 50 team we need to consider that a good win. Nebraska I agree is blah, but how poetic would it be to have UCF destroy Nebraska with all their blithering about Frost. Marquee can be different for different teams for different reasons.

Something is worth what someone will pay for it. So if a booster is willing to pay it, that is its market value. It's simple supply and demand economics. This isnt rocket science.

College sports aren't in the 'fair market' though. If they were then only the top 15 or so schools would win every single year. If the kids want to get their "market value" they can go play overseas and see how much they get paid there. Then they can come back to the NCAA.

Only the top 15 or so schools win every year anyway.

The last 20 National Titles were won by 10 schools. 5 schools won 15 of those titles(UNC, Duke, UCONN, Kentucky, and Florida).

Nothing would change. The same schools that win now will win in this world. Only difference is that those players would be properly compensated for the value they bring.

It would absolutely kill the NCAA tournament though, because any time a good player had a good season for a lower market team he could transfer to the school that would pay him most. They kind of already do that... but it needs to be cracked down on, not opened up to anarchy.

Multi year contracts could exist.

The Louisville game is the best game on the Tiger schedule, IMO. They are highly ranked and they are an intense traditional rival.

Haha, love how you left out the kitty kats!

Which Kitty Kats are you referring to?

I was referring to Nova, but I must have just not seen them on your list. My bad.

Alabama is ranked #21. We're playing them in Annapolis. How does that not rank as a marquee game for Memphis? Read the thread title again.

It doesn't say marguee games with all-time CBB programs. It says FOR YOUR TEAM. Playing the #21 team on a neutral court qualifies as such.

So does that make Rutgers one of ECU's "marquee" games?

No. Did I say that?

I'm not defending them, or any other choice, other than us playing the #21 team in the country on opening night.

Or, we could leave it alone and not make the top players stay a year in college. Seems like an easier fix than a complete system overhaul which would ruin college sports.

Unfortunately, that has nothing to do with the NCAA. That is an NBA rule negotiated in their Collective Bargaining Agreement.

I agree that high school seniors should be allowed to go to the NBA if that is where they can get their fair market value.

Even if that is allowed though, that doesnt mean that college players dont deserve their value either.

All should bow down to Bama and their 1 NCAA tourney appearance in the last 10 years (a first round loss)...

They may have the best Freshman PG in the nation in Collin Sexton. He might be a lottery (or even top 10 pick). Let me know who in the AAC has the same? Remove the label. Possible top 20-25 team with a possible lottery pick, sounds pretty marquee to me.

I don't care if Lebron James is playing on Alabama the fact is Alabama is not a marquee basketball program- it never has been and never will be

one player doesnt make a program marquee

being ranked doesnt make a program marquee

from the looks of the responses instead of calling this "what marquee programs are you playing", the OP should've just said what are the best teams you play out of conference
