Quote:KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — University of Tennessee officials are discussing Butch Jones’ immediate future as coach of the Vols on Sunday afternoon, according to sources close to the program.

Tennessee (3-5, 0-5 SEC) has lost four consecutive games, including a 29-26 defeat at Kentucky that registers as the program’s second loss in the past 33 years to the Wildcats.

Jones told the media Saturday night he was “absolutely” certain that first-year Vols athletic director John Currie would support him the remainder of the season, but it appears that might not be the case.

SEC Country reported last week that Jones likely would need to win the rest of the games in the regular season to be retained, starting with the Kentucky game.

Florida reportedly decided to part ways with coach Jim McElwain on Sunday, a day after the Gators’ 42-7 setback to rival Georgia. Tennessee fans, meanwhile, have been vocal about their displeasure with Jones this season, to the point of frequently calling and emailing Currie.

Jones normally meets with the media on Monday at noon, but plans for this week have not yet been announced by the school.

Too bad they couldn't leave him somewhere without a ride like the kewl schools do.

According to ESPN, UT has offered Jon Gruden $10 million a year to be the coach.
Jones is done.

I heard it was 12 million if he'd give up his 80s haircut. He refused, thus, 10m.

If they hire Gruden, they’ll be getting killed on Saturdays. That would be a monumentally awful hire. From bad to worse

I agree. I like Gruden (my favorite Raider head coach), but I’m not sure if college is the right fit for him. I don’t see him recruiting that well.

If true, what will they offer the second, third, or fourth pick?

As long as our coach is not being mentioned, I could care less.

What is their obsession with Gruden? Has he ever indicated anything remotely about coaching in Knoxville. Will google this.

He was a Graduate Assistant there THIRTY years ago. This is their Frost to Nebraska connection of Gruden to Tennessee? He must have said something in passing one time and they never forgot.

He has not coached in nearly TEN years.

We have plenty of Tennessee fluffers here so someone please defiantly indicate how crazy a I am because of the obvious reasons Gruden will be their next coach, helll maybe he will be.

There is a clip that the sports stations play to rile folks up where he says he loves Tennesee and has orange blood. Not sure of context or how old it is, but it fires the locals up.

Met his wife there. Son currently is a UT student. Owns land in East TN.

Not the biggest Gruden fan, so would love to see him go there and fail.

So he met his wife there, assuredly nearly thirty years ago...but I guess having a son be a student and owning land is a connection that seems hopelessly un connnected to someone who has not coached a game in nearly ten years and is approaching the latter half start of middle age to get back into that grind...when he is likely making a fortune as an announcer.

Maybe it would happen but goodness even if it did it seems like a stretch.

They should look at a hot assistant since they feel burned by the last two coaches from less prestigious programs, LA Tech and Cindy.

Our coach, if he has hankerings to move up, should avoid those crap shows and only face with the biggest of bigs, like a Florida.
