RE: Butch Jones...BOOM OUTTA HERE?
Gruden was a grad assistant at UTK for two years, a passing game coordinator for SEMO for one year and the TE coach at Pacific for one year. Most of his experience is at the NFL. He was the head coach for the Raiders from 1998 through 2001 and the Bucs from 2002-2008. He won a Super Bowl in 2003 over the Raiders. His post-season record is 5-4 (55.6%) and his career record is 100-85 (54.1%).

Gruden has been out of coaching for nearly ten years and never was even an offensive or defensive coordinator coach at the college level and has little - if any - proven recruiting skills.

UT-K wants Gruden to win the press conference because UT-K fans equate celebrity with competence.

HAHA. You nailed it. UT-K is just scrambling at this point.

RE: Butch Jones...BOOM OUTTA HERE?
Someone mentioned earlier that aside from Alabama, most SEC coaches are effectively on a 1 or 2 yr contract. In other words win soon or go home. Yet money schools like UTK think the golden ring is some super-expensive big hire with a huge buyout. They should forget it and do like successful programs like Memphis or UCF or others have done. Don't do the splashy name--go with a good recruiter and a good off/def coordinator, a young guy.

Splashy names don't do any better than the hungry young guys.

I mentioned Alabama as the exception.

We have plenty of Tennessee fluffers here so someone please defiantly indicate how crazy a I am because of the obvious reasons Gruden will be their next coach, helll maybe he will be.

how long the man hasn't coaches means nothing.
Ask Dick Vermeil....took over the Rams and won a Super Bowl.

RE: Butch Jones...BOOM OUTTA HERE?
its a pipe dream, nabbing Gruden.
He gets to be around football...without worrying about being fired. UT needs to be looking at someone like a Mike Bobo or Matt Campbell

When Mike leaves, we can just hire Mike Tomlin.
I'm sure he'd bring Keith Butler home with him.
I'm sure he'd love to sit in the dens of high schoolers begging.

Game, set, match.

Maybe someone with class at UT will park a moving van in front of Jones’ home so he’ll get the message. Oops, that been done before.

That works in the AAC. It's rare you'll see successfulish P5 programs nowadays give head coaches without experience or at least a few winning seasons at lower levels schools a chance.

I love the fact Memphis has been doing great the last few years but I'm not delusional enough to think that any of those teams would be 9-10 win teams in the SEC.

It's hard to win the conference especially right now with Saban there. LSU has won it once, Auburn has won it twice since 2009. The rest have gone to Saban and Bama.

Schools like Florida, LSU, Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, and so on don't get excited about 8 win seasons and winning a bowl game. Going to a bowl game 3-4 years in a row doesn't excite them. They want to compete for the National Championship.

Those schools will continue to shuffle through coaches until someone can finally get over the hump. They have the resources.

UCF looks solid this year but as good as they look they would still at best be a .500 team in the SEC.

It's a different animal.

Right about Vermeil. Joe Gibbs was out for a while then returned to Washington and made the playoffs. Bill Walsh was out for a bit then went back to Stanford.

So there is precedent but it is still rare and I would posit fairly difficult, exceptions noted.
