I suspect they're best off getting a new coach and going back to what worked so well for them.

Older Miami fans who lived during the prime of the Cradle can definitely relate. It's amazing to think that at one time we had a streak of seven straight coaches who moved up to big-time jobs across thirty-plus years, how times have changed.

Was their OC if I'm not mistaken, GSU fans would have to confirm.

I'm honestly shocked it took them this long to fire him. Prior to this season every year Georgia Southern had a losing season they had a new coach the following year. They don't tolerate losing along the banks of "Beautiful Eagle Creek" like it is tolerated elsewhere and that's a huge reason they have been so successful over the years.

Ga. Southern had major success with the option, and the quarterbacks and other players that could run it. Also, their defenses usually are good over the years.

They recruit well for the FCS level, and are in a great location to do so. With the right hire, they can come back to form rather quickly.

Hopefully the right match will be found.

Wish you guys well.

I have cousins that went to GA Tech so there's some connection I have with the G5 Georgia schools. I remember you guys steamrolled my Broncos a couple years ago in Statesboro.

I think you NIU fans underestimate Carey. Wouldn't surprise me if you guys won the MAC......AGAIN.

He wanted to hire a coach with ties to South Georgia thatbwould stay a while. He took a chance on Summers and it flopped big time. Now I hope he’s learned his lesson.

G5 schools are not final destinations for good coaches. We have to accept this. Having coaches get snatched by larger programs means you’re doing something right and hiring the right people. Look at Arkansas State. They had something crazy like 4 new coaches in the last 5 years or something yet they’ve also won the SBC title 4 Times in the last 5 years because they’re replacing amazing coaches with other amazing coaches. They are proof that you can be a springboard school and still be successful.

We need to recognize that to be the best, we have to bring in the best, and to do that we have to put up real money and quit playing games with contracts. We have been doing better and better with our budget size and could afford any proven FCS coach we wanted as long as a larger program wasn’t also interested.
That's insane, though as a P5 school, I'd want a coach who had more then one year with a good Arkansas St team that he didn't build.
