NFL decline is not all about the anthem protests. Add in botched calls/arcane rules
http://blog.masslive.com/patriots/2017/1...d_nfl.html
How an obvious TD play is overturned AND given to the opposing team as a fumble/touchback is another problem. Are the games being "played the night before"? Or is the NFL pushing certain franchises even if it involves "botching" an occasional call? Add in the theory of the Raiders OL getting Carr killed on purpose, and it has the stench of games being rigged.

I have wondered if it is gambling affecting the honesty of sports or if it is the power of some franchises and P5 programs that seem to receive favorable treatment from officiating crews and governing bodies.
Or both.
Sometimes you watch and think, there is no way they could get that call wrong, the correct ruling is so obvious and then they make a call that goes against what replay clearly shows.
It would be interesting to break down controversial calls that were ruled incorrectly and see how often a power franchise or P5 program was the beneficiary.

My wife and I havent watched an NFL game in two years. It has nothing to do with arcane rules or bad calls. If that were the case, we wouldnt be pinned to our 65" on Saturdays watching college football.

I’ve given up the nfl because it’s just not very fun to watch. No pageantry and it’s filled with primadonnas who don’t put effort out and are just looking for the next big paycheck. It’s just so commercial and not a family atmosphere, it’s a 180 degree opposite of college football.

That exact play happened in Bengals Ravens game a number of years ago. Even the ball does cross the goal line, if the ball is not 100% secured at that time, and if the catch is not 100% completed.........no TD. IDK if the ball went out of the end zone last touched by the Jets player have only seen the one video.

well... attendance in Jax...is plummeting since those POS took a knee in London... and the Paki owner keeps badmouthing the President..
I mean it is a lot of things... long games... asinine replay reviews.... throw in the Vegas Raiders and LA Chargers...
College Football is far superior.

Bad calls are as old as the NFL itself that's not what's hurting the league.

Its too "cookie cutter" for my taste. Every team runs the same offense and the same defensive schemes. All the stadiums look-a-like as do all the uniforms which just vary in color and helmet logo. Someone else mentioned mediocrity--- that is by design with the way the league structures the draft, salary caps, etc. Basically there is no reason why a team can't be .500 in this league without malfeasance in the front office and miserable coaching.
What I always enjoyed about college football is that I can watch one team run a spread offense, another run a west coast style offense and yet another running the triple option. Football venues could vary from being on campus or surrounded by beautiful mountains or water.

Pro football has long been — in the words of Howard Cosell — “a stagnant bore.” Now it’s a stagnant bore with a side-dish of political grandstanding.
