Houston Roll Call
Who's making the trip! Decided to make it with a group of friends after the win yesterday.

For those who have been to Houston don't hesitate and please let me know some good places for food, scenic pictures and tourist attractions!

Try any of the Papa's restaurant chain: (not sure on spelling here): Papadoux's (Cajun), Papacita's (Mexican), Papa's seafood. And, you might try their BBQ (Papa's has one of those too, I believe). Texans will BBQ anything, but the brisket is OK.

Drive down to Galveston if you want a beach, although it isn't spectacular.

Dont go to Pappasitos. Please. Houston is one of the great food cities in this country. Dont go to a chain.

Houston is the 3rd largest immigrant city in this country behind NYC and LA. Throw a dart at a map and there is a great restaurant in houston for that country's food.

Get the Shrimp Etoufee at Pappdeaux. Finish it off with some Key Lime pie. Then go sleep for about 10 hours.

Any of the restaurants in the Montross area are great - can't go wrong with any choices there

Torchys taco and velvet taco are great taco shops too

Pappadeaux would kill it in Overton Square. Or anywhere out east on Poplar.

When I worked in Houston, I always stayed at a Courtyard off 610 for the sole reason that it shared a parking lot with Pappadeaux, and you could order Pappadeaux room service. They would walk it over from the restaurant.

Here in Dallas, we really love Pappadeaux. The chain is headquartered in Houston, so Pappas chain restaurant locations are all over the area. I am really not that crazy about Pappasitos Cantina. If you want to spend a lot of money at a good restaurant, there are lots of great steak houses in Texas and Houston is no exception. Pappas Brothers Steakhouse on Westheimer is rated the #1 restaurant in Houston by TripAdvisor. That's #1 out of over 7,000 restaurants in Houston. Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse is also in Houston as well as Dallas and we have enjoyed going there as well.
https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_R...Texas.html

We also like THE CAPITAL GRILLE. We have several here in Dallas and one near us in Plano and go there for special occasions. They are also located in Houston.

Agree on Pappasito's. It's not bad, but many other tex-mex options that are better.

We got The Capital Grille in Memphis a couple of years ago.

Pappadeaux is fantastic. Chain or not, if you haven't been, and they aren't in MEM, definitely worth it.

And yes Capital Grille is great. But Memphis already has one. Del Frisco's is superb, and not in Memphis. Those two upscale chain steakhouses have left Ruth Chris in the rearview mirror.

I'll be there!

I'm a U of M alum who's been living in the Houston area since 2004. Although you can't beat Memphis BBQ (IMO), you may consider trying Texas BBQ while in H-Town. One of the top-rated BBQ spots in Texas is Killen's Barbecue. Of course if you go there, you must try the brisket. There's always a line out the door, but it moves rather quickly. Here's the address:

Killen's Barbecue
3613 E Broadway St
Pearland, TX 77581

It's about 14 miles from TDECU Stadium. Go Tigers!

Isn't there one in Richardson across the interstate from the old Nortel training campus? If it's the one I'm thinking of it has a special place in my heart.

02-13-banana I am in Houston now on business and I ate at the Pappa's Seafood Grill tonight. Expensive but worth it. Going to game tomorrow night (hopefully). Do not have ticket right now but will be able to buy one before game I believe from someone either Memphis or Houston fan. Motel desk staff said I was about a 10 to 15 minute drive to stadium. Marriott Springhill suites in Medical Center. GO TIGERS !!!!

Been to Houston a bunch. Kenny and Ziggys is an awesome local Jewish style deli. Killens has the best BBQ. Although it's a chain and fast food, Taco Cabana has some good breakfast tacos that you can pick up on the go.

We have enough bad Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurants. No reason to add another bad one by getting a Chuy's.
