Are y'all suggesting that Conference USA has an agenda against Rice? Sounds fishy

There have been so many "final acts". At this point, until his office is empty, I won't hold my breath.

Every time I open this forum or see a "David Bailiff" Google alert in my inbox, I hope that something's changed for the positive. Nope.
But this article about Kansas coach and Bailiff protege David Beatty is classic:
Quote:Two days after his team dropped a home game to previously winless Baylor, extending the current Kansas football losing streak to eight games, head coach David Beaty wasn’t feeling concerned about the status of his contract.
“I’m not at all. I feel great,” Beaty said Monday morning ... now close to 11 months after signing a contract extension with KU that runs through the 2021 season and includes a $3.2 million buyout. ...
The third-year Kansas coach, whose record stands at 3-30 entering this week’s trip to Texas, said his mentor, Rice head coach David Bailiff, always told him “you win with juniors and seniors.”
Baylor used a freshman QB to get its first win of the year in Lawrence. Charlie Brewer went 23 of 29 for 315 yards, 3 TDs and no interceptions against the veteran eight-junior Jayhawk defense.

Replace “you win with juniors and seniors" with "you win against UTEP and Charlotte" and you got a amazing formula right there.

Isn't it awful how we ran this man off? Four bowl games and a conference championship wasn't enough for us. The disaster of the last six years really puts it into perspective, doesn't it?

don't really think so...what was awful is how we hired another buffoon whose major accomplishment appears to be making the previous buffoon seem far better than he was. Perhaps someday we'll be here reminiscing about the golden age of Bloom...

I don't like it any more than you do, but lying to ourselves about how 'good' these two were/are ain't just a river in Egypt...the first thing one has to do to begin to address a problem is admit where one is...the athl dept/admin seldom seem to really admit things are as bad as they are here and are deserving of radical change for the better...can, meet foot...

7 still gets you an 'unprecedented' APR who cares bowl...8 is the new "magic" number, but it seems they'd still extend him based on the UH win alone. Tragic.

There's no way the new AD allows Bloomgren to stay. I'm sure he wants to fire him right now, but hasn't been given the 'green light' by DeRoches. Maybe one more loss will do it.
No coach in the history of Rice athletics has been given the resources and opportunities afforded to Bloomgren. Any mid-season firing is completely justified.

I disagree. Bailiff wasn't a buffoon. Bailiff won without anything near the resources the present coach has. It isn't even close. Did Bailiff have bad loses? Yes. But don't forget that he took Rice to four bowl games, winning three of them and a conference championship...without a 5 star transfer QB. I get the frustration of the last three years of Bailiff's tenure, but he accomplished far more with less than the current regime.

Good post. Absolutely correct. Bailiff didn't even have the budget to hire qualified assistants. He was always forced to promote from within, or hire 'has-beens.' His recruiting budget was an embarrassment. By the time the end zone facility was built, he was already in a tailspin. Bailiff was not treated fairly at all.

I enjoy the Roost and all the work that they do covering Rice Athletics. However, this one quote is a bit misleading:
"Rice needs three more wins to secure a bowl trip for the second consecutive season, a feat that has only happened twice in program history, dating back now 110 seasons. There’s that mountain top, again."
https://attheroost.com/2023/10/11/rice-f...stency-23/
Rice went to three consecutive bowl games under Bailiff:
2012 (Armed Forces Bowl)
2013 (Liberty Bowl)
2014 (Hawaii Bowl)
