First no one suggest David Beatty’s return.

For me the moment the program started to completely unravel was the Liberty Bowl game. After doing their best coaching job in play calling, preparation, and game management against Marshall, the staff appeared to do nothing for the MSU game. If we had competed and been beaten by 14 or 17 it would have been more than a success. We could have built on that, but we had a performance like tonight. The 2014 season was a joke but somehow we found ourselves in a bowl game against an even worse team in Fresno State. That win kept the Bailiff story going and here we are still living it.

Seems to me it has always been pretty much that way at Rice. I have no inside visibility, but just look at what we went through in the '70's and '80's.

Bad and good: he's ruining his chances to go to Stanford, but we're stuck with him, much like Bailiff.

As AD, that's probably where his loyalties have to lie. Being AD is more like running a business than coaching a football team.
