Though the FBI said in 2019 that Paddock’s actions were not driven by a grievance against any particular casino or hotel, one fellow gambler interviewed by investigators after the attack said Paddock had become angry about how casinos generally dealt with VIP players.
The gambler, whose name is redacted, told the FBI that Paddock was “upset at the way casinos were treating him and other high rollers” and that he believed the frustration could have caused the gunman to “snap,” according to the documents.

And yet he didnt fire a single bullet at the hotel itself or any of its employees, interests, or its officers. Instead---he fired thousands of rounds at a country and western music audience who had nothing to do with the hotel VIP policy. Its not like the FBI doesnt have a policy of ignoring or underplaying hate crimes aimed at conservatives (look no further than the recent assassination attempt on Trump). Nobody trusts the FBI anymore---and that state of affairs is a direct result of FBI behavior. In other words---that distrust has been earned by the FBI themselves. I used to believe that the rank and file were trustworthy and only a few bad apples at the top were the issue. I no longer believe that. I now think the FBI is heavily corrupted at all levels---and while there are still some great civil servants in their ranks---I have my doubts that the "non-corrupted" percentage of the FBI even makes up a majority of the organization anymore. Ten years ago---if a couple of FBI agents showed up at my door and wanted to ask me a few questions about a person----I would have instantly cooperated. I dont think I would say a word to the agents today under the same circumstances. Id be afraid there was too much of a chance they might willfully misconstrue, misuse, embellish, or twist anything I said---possibly resulting in unwarranted legal harm to another or even myself.

The only thing I’ve heard from official sources is that he was bummed about losing money at the tables, and/or depressed about his family background, relationships with ladies, etc.

Once again, numerous claims of mismanagement arose following the fire. They included a lack of planning, ineffective or unavailable advanced warning systems, and potential evacuation routes blocked by debris and, in many cases, police officers.
While he remained as the Maui Police Chief following the Lahaina Fire, there are now calls for him to be placed on administrative leave, including from the Maui mayor.
The calls for administrative leave are in conjunction with him being named as a co-defendant in a federal lawsuit levied against disgraced hip-hop mogul Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. Trouble certainly seems to follow this man wherever he may go.
