I could see Marshall if they fire Doc Holliday. I don't think they do...but...
I think he's more likely to jump than be fired.

Is Doc leaving Marshall? If not he is not in danger.

Doc is from neighboring Hurricane, WV, (I know his family...). He's not exactly a young man anymore (he's 60). The only jobs I could see him jumping for would be WVU. Some disgruntled Marshall fans want him fired, but I don't see it happening. (The Marshall fans think he hasn't accomplished enough and blame him for sagging attendance numbers.)

Butch jumped to the first big job that came along and he paid for it. Tennessee has massively unrealistic expectations because they think they’re more than they are.

No on both counts.
Butch was offered the Colorado and Purdue jobs first. He turned them down.
And Tennessee has every right to expect a winner. They have a huge fanbase - despite their recent failures they're still regularly top-10 in attendance and merchandising revenue. And they've got a winning history, with 13 SEC titles (more than anyone except Alabama). They've also won 6 national titles, one of which was only 19 years ago.

All of this is true except the right to expect a winner, because since 2005 they are only 4 games above .500 and 40-61 in conference. All but one of their national championships happened back when passing was something "those damn whippersnappers are trying to ruin football with" and when none of their current fans were conscious of their surroundings. Once the talent and training started becoming modernized, Tennessee fell off a cliff. There is very little high end talent in Tennessee, and they aren't going to UT anymore...I don't see a way back to the 11-13 win seasons of the late 90's for UT, and they should probably be pretty happy with 9-win seasons and the occasional clunker.
I mean, hell, if you remove CBJ from that time period they're 15 games under .500 over a decade with an absolutely abysmal record in the SEC. The new reality for Tennessee is that they'll be 3rd in the east most years and will need to be ok with 8-9 win seasons and bowls against similar teams in other conferences. I mean, **** me, Butch Jones had 2 9-win seasons in his first three years, won three bowl games, 10 Top 25 wins in 3 seasons, and he got run out of town. Who the hell would want a gig where that's cause for firing?
Looking back at their coaches in the past...if UT had similar hooks back then, they would've fired Robert Neyland (yes THAT Neyland) before he won any of his NCs with them and Johnny Majors would've been gone back in 1980, well before he started winning conference titles left and right in the mid to late 80's. Listen, I don't think Butch Jones is a great game coach, but he's the first coach in almost a decade who was convincing decent players to go to Tennessee...which is a talent many out there don't have. After this season he should be gone, but the unrealistic expectations of the current UT fanbase are just ridiculous.

Those NC's are misleading. UT was dubbed the NC in 1951, even though they lost their bowl to Maryland and Maryland went undefeated that year.
In 1967 USC was the NC for every association, except Litkenhous. UT was also 9-2 that year as well as many other teams. USC ended the season 10-1.
5 of their 6 claimed NC's had multiple NC's in those years. In reality this team has only won one NC in 1998.
With all do respect to the UT program - they do have an impressive history within the SEC. However, history is history. All that really matters is the last 10-20 years.

What matters is the balance sheet.
Jones just cashed pretax income of in the ballpark of $18 million (or more) these past 5 seasons and he just got an $8.2 million buyout per the reports on Monday.

In fairness to UT, I think the attitude today at nearly all P5 schools and even some G5 schools is that you have less than 5 years to take us to another level of success (ie. CCG, NCG, etc.). Do it or you are out. We'll get somebody else in here and see if they can do better.
There's just too much money being paid out on these coaching contracts to keep a guy around who is not winning the hardware.

If my math is correct, he was making over $330/hr, for every hour of every day of the year. I think I could tolerate some heavy vitriol and hilarious memes at my expense for that.

In many ways CLF reminds me of Dantonio.
I always kind of thought he reminded me of Adam Sandler

With y'all on this.
The guy has a 5 star heart agent, or whoever negotiated for him.
He was NEVER an SEC caliber coach, however, he rode a wave of solid publicity. Tenn got punked.
