Pretty good actually if you have for a good federal defense attorney. 97% or something of all Federal Cases are plea bargains in the end. So they reach an agreement with the US Attorney's office to plea guilty in exchange for them recommending a shorter sentence. IE... I'll plea to the crime but I want a shorter sentence. If you want to give me the full term... I'll fight this case out for the next three years, and burn millions of the government's money. As much as US Attorney's wants to be able to check off another 'win', they also dont want to be known as the person who spent all the money on a stupid case just to get an extra year or two of a sentence.
Outside of a few exceptions, Federal Crimes don't have mandatory minimums... there is a guideline range, but that can be deviated from in either direction. The US A's office will recommend an internment length and while
technically a Fed Judge can ignore the recommendations of the US Attorney's office, usually they don't unless they have a good damn reason to.
In the Federal system once you plead guilty you are given your sentence, both sides have the opportunity to appeal the sentence length. So judges usually go with whatever the US A's recommend so there isn't a bunch more paperwork to deal with when either side appeals.
Thanks for the input, I bet he only does about 14 months or less. He should go somewhere like Angola (sic)
Thanks for the measured, reasonable response. Interesting.
I think it's too light for something like this, but hopefully it sinks in at some level with this sicko. My daughter was 15 not long ago, I might woulda gone all "Time to kill" (John Grisham novel, Feds. No need to come knock on my door) on a panty-waste bed-wetter like this guy sending this crap to my child.
Still wonder what the file "Insurance" was on the laptop he and his "wife" (Canks girlfriend) shared.

“It’s good to be out,” Weiner told the New York Post. “I hope to be able to live a life of integrity and service. I’m glad this chapter of my life is behind me.”

And your fellow loons will elect him to some office.
