My wife will not like my new seats. Old ones had such great access to the restrooms and concessions. But I wanted to be lower. Try for one season at least.

Do you know what time the Ted opens for the Friday night practice?

Excellent...thanks. I'm curious on how they'll format the practice.

Yikes. Were behind UNC Greensboro, Northern Colorado, and a whole host of other cringe worthy programs. If anyone needs a little perspective on where we actually are as a program after 5 years of JJ, reading through this list should provide it.

This doesn't tell us "where we are as a program." It's one writers opinion of ranking every team. He's got us at 191, which would be worst we've been in years besides JJ's first year (I think)

FWIW, KenPom has us at 94 and Blue Ribbon has us at 4th in CUSA (which would surely be <150)

Additionally, Jones mentioned that BJ had the best offseason and will be our go to scorer along with Caver. Mentioned that Brandan improved his jumper to where he can hit out to 16 feet to diversify his game. Said Godwin/Hueit can shoot well but need to improve defense. Green made good use of his redshirt year as it was harder than he imagined.

Regardless of whether you agree or not, it shows the perception, the quality of the brand that JJ has built.

Its not a general consensus. Its one writers opinion that appears way off base from any other prognosticator.

Not to be picky....JJ was hired in April 2013. He's coached 4 season not 5. He has recruited 4 classes in my opinion since by the time he came in the recruiting season was almost over and a lot of his time was used keeping current players here....especially Denzel.

None of the above are good enough in year 5. End of story.

I, like this writer, find it hard to believe we are significantly better than we were last year.

Glad we've landed some good recruits this year and last but if we don't make the NCAA in the first 5 years it's too little to late. Enough is enough with the excuse making.

We will be better than 191. Probably top 150 again.

191 would represent 70 spots lower than our final kenpom ranking last year. It would also represent a team that is comparable to the first year JJ was coach.

That is not going to happen. Our starting 5 is pretty damn good and if Xavier is as good as I have been hearing, we will be much better. Those saying we are not going to be much better than last year, are not real fans.

I hope you are right, but we lose our 2 best defenders in a defense-first system and our #2 scorer in Talley. I certainly don't think we will drop to 191, but I don't see how one can be confident we will be any better, much less "much better". I think Xavier is going to be very good for us, but I doubt he will dominate as a freshman or even replace Zoran's production. There is always a chance the team will gel, everything will fall into place perfectly, and JJ will catch lightning in a bottle, but you seem pretty darn confident that will happen.

While I appreciate the optimism and agree our starting 5 is pretty damn good, we need to keep in mind we are going in with 4 proven players (Stith, Stith, Caver, Porter) and we have no depth in the frontcourt. There will be foul trouble, injuries (even if they are minor and able to be played through without costing minutes), and statistical anomalies (games where we cannot throw it in the ocean and games where our opponents cannot miss).

I think BJ will be better, Porter will show flashes of dominance throughout the year, we will get what we have consistently gotten from Brandan, and Caver will be more consistent. I think the freshmen will regress a little before finishing strong. I predict being right around where we were last year, in the 100-150 range. I don't think this prediction is unreasonable nor makes me not a real fan. I do think, if we retain all of our players, the following season will be more of an opportunity to take a step forward, regardless of who is the coach. It is pretty rare outside of the P5 that freshman recruits make the immediate impact we will need them to in order to get to MTSU's level.

I'm not so sure. Is Green going to be better than Talley? Seems like we lost more scoring than we've gained unless one of the freshmen step up to really surprise us.

Granted, the other players will improve, but will we be significantly better as a team? We had a ton of 5, 7, and 10 minute scoring droughts last year. Have we improved enough to eliminate those?

And have we improved enough to beat MTSU and win the CUSA Tournament, because that's the only way that we will sniff an NCAA Tournament Bid this year. What do we mean by "much better"?

I'm excited to see the new players as well as seeing Caver take the next step in his game. But in terms of team success, my hopes greatly exceed my expectations.

RE: 2017 basketball
I don't think our team will be worse; I think it will be a modest improvement over last year. Brandan staying healthy will be important as he's missed a chunk the last 2 years and played through injuries.

The team will have more depth on offense. It's not difficult to envision four double digit scores in Stith(2), Caver, Porter. Those four should reasonably be expected to improve on next year. So it boils down to how Talley, Baker, Taylor get replaced. Green/Heuit/Godwin/Haynes combination does not have to be world beaters, just play decent defense and combine for about 12-18 points per game.

RE: 2017 basketball
I think we have a chance to be much improved this year. Up front I admit I am an optimist and every year am excited to see our latest addition on the floor but this is why I feel good about the year:
1. We lost a lot of close, winnable games last year Part of the reason can be chalked up to inexperience. The year before everything went through Freeman. Last year we had some good talent but BJ was basically playing his first full year, almost the same for Porter, Caver was given the reins with broader expectations. Those guys are all still here with a year under their belts. They need to learn how to win and I'm banking on last years experience in those close games helping us this year.
2. We do need Brandon to stay healthy as well as we are very thin up front and if Brandon and Porter can't stay on the floor then my expectations are much lower.
3. People talk about up tempo but we were making a lot of strides in the 2nd half of the season in that direction until Caver turned his ankle before the tournament. He and our faster tempo was not effective after that.
4. Our offense was bogged down last year because Taylor was no threat to even shoot much less score. Everyone that watched us knows that the defense didn't even look at Taylor and with Baker the defense just had to defend the three. I understand they were our lock down defenders but I expect our offense to be much improved with more scoring threats in the game. With Porter and Stith playing alongside each other it should open the offensive end up some for both.

Last year I went to the tournament in the Bahamas. I came back feeling optimistic because I thought we would see less of Baker and Taylor on the floor as Haynes and Porter expanded their roles. As much as I liked Taylor and Baker I couldn't see us improving with very little offense coming from them. And by offense I don't just mean points. Taylor needed to be a threat to shoot and Baker needed to be effective with the ball other than just shooting a spot up three. That never happened. So each of them played about 30 minutes a game. No matter how much "up tempo" we want to be if 35-40% of our minutes are played by defensive specialist with limited offensive skills then scoring is going to be tough.

It could be a pretty exciting year if the newcomers blend in with the experience we have. Can't wait for the season to start.
