Odd because our support for women's basketball is pretty solid actually, and probably surpasses some of the other schools that local players end up going to. But it would be nice to get another high profile transfer. All of our golden eras in women's basketball had D1 transfers who were integral parts of our success.
Kim Smallwood (transfer from Tennessee) was a key member of the team that defeated UCSB in the NCAA Tournament. I believe that she is the head girls basketball coach at Fort Bend Bush?

Incoming recruit:

I think that Lauren Schwartz is so much better than #255.
She had an up and down Freshman season. Was a real spark early in the season, but disappeared for much of the second half of the season. We really need her to step up next season, and take on a leadership role.

Which Lauren Schwartz are you talking about??...the one that scored in double figures for 7 of our last 8 games or the one that was our third leading scorer and that was rock solid at the FT line and that greatly contributed to the ODU game for the C-USA championship...she had a GREAT freshman year.

Obviously not the one you are referring to!

I'm seeing offers from Georgetown, Memphis, UAB, WKU, Richmond, Villanova, a bunch of other CUSA schools, and a couple of Ivies. She's a 6-2 wing (surprise, surprise).
I think this means we have two 2021 spots left. The ultimate win would still be Kyndall Hunter, a Houston guard who's ranked in the top 25/20 depending on site. But we're up against all of the bluebloods in that battle, so our odds probably aren't overly favorable.

Another player from Georiga. Looks like her team was 30-1 this past year and made it to the final four in the Private A class. She averaged 15.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, 3.5 steals, 3 assists and 1.6 blocks last season for the Lions’ state semifinal team. She made 61.6 percent of her field goals.
Fun facts: Her mom is a MTSU WBB alum (wonder if they offered?) and her brother will be a GA State baseball player (transfer).

RE: Women's Basketball Recruiting Thread
Hunter's recruitment moves to the next stage. Her final 10 schools are:
Mississippi State (#9), Texas A&M (#18), Texas, LSU, USC, Arizona (#12), Florida State (#19), Rice, NC State (#8), Arizona State (#25)
She's ranked as the #29 player by ESPN in the 2021 class, a 5* recruit. Prospects Nation has her at #19. She was the All-Greater Houston girls basketball player of the year this past season. Obviously doesn't need to be said, but a massive opportunity to land an immediate gamechanger.
Regardless of what happens, it's impressive that Langley and the staff have made the first cut. Hunter obviously wants to, and has the opportunity to, play at the highest level. It'll obviously be ridiculously hard to close the deal. She's got an opportunity to play for national title contenders, new coaches (McCray at MIST), and in front of substantial crowds. But it's obvious that there's a relationship between player and staff, one that's probably been fostered for a few years since Hunter is local, so the hope has to be that the personal connections (plus the academics) are strong enough to overcome some of the weaker Rice selling points.

Common practice for this situation would be to hire her mom/dad as an assistant coach. That’s the only way this works out in men’s basketball.

Interesting that we made the cut and UH did not. We are the hometown choice.

She would make a terrible decision not to go to Rice with such uncertain times. (07-11-2020 08:11 AM)OptimisticOwl Wrote: (07-11-2020 12:03 AM)elw4796 Wrote: Hunter's recruitment moves to the next stage. Her final 10 schools are:

Check out WBB on Twitter. There is really a nice presentation introducing the three new recruits.
