For starters I am not an Arkansas State fan.

I can understand if the game was in Miami but it is in Jonesboro Arkansas. This was to be the biggest game Arkansas St. had ever had on their home field. So the AD of Ark. St. agreed to move the game up to Friday. Miami refused. The Ark St. AD agreed to reschedule. Miami refused.

It comes down to Miami found an excuse to get out of playing an away game to a lesser tier football school. If the game was against the University of Arkansas and not Ark. St. I bet they would have worked something out.

Why the rush to get back to Miami. Seems perfect, go to Ark St. play game, and go back after Irma. Like Monday or Tuesday. Hell people are evacuating Miami.

I hope Miami goes undefeated but can't make the CFP because of some reason having to do with not playing this game.

Does Ark St still get paid?

I don't have a problem with them pulling out of the game this weekend. As I post this they should either be evacuating or preparing to evacuate, not prepping for a game. The school cancelled classes for the rest of the week starting today so that students could be prepared to evacuate.

Miami should just offer to play the game next year.

I don't have a problem with it as far as simply paying them is concerned.

I imagine they'll play the game in Arkansas in the future - may be awhile but they'll make it up eventually. I'm not going to ask for ill will on them specifically. Who knows what shape that campus will be in 3-4 days.

My whole problem is not rescheduling the game.

From reports Miami is just dropping the game all together. No money and no reschedule ever.

If Miami comes back and gives Ark St. money or reschedules the game to be played at Arkansas State then I am good with that.

I would assume the contract would require them to pay Ark State

I'm assuming this was a 2:1 type deal and the payment for the two games was Miami going to Arkansas....

Of all the reasons to hate Miami U, this seems like one of the more forgivable ones. There are bigger things than football, and many of the players may have families in the path of the storm. They don't get paid enough to play with that weighing over them... at least, they probably don't. Or, maybe it's better to say that they probably all don't get paid enough...

Gonna be tough for any player to be paying full attention to playing a football game with friends, family, possessions and whatever else in a dire situation. I can see not playing it now, would very likely be a big fat L.

But, yes they need to pay, play it next year or make some kind of accommodation.

Well said.

I'm more upset with the NFL players who are upset about the NFL not playing the Dolphins-Bucs game in a neutral site Thursday. They're mad now that those two teams have to play 16 straight NFL games without a bye week. Someone needs to tell them that all teams used to do that up until the early 1990's.

I think it's better than these players (and other team personnel) can now be with their families leading up to Irma's landfall in making last minute hurricane preparation plans. Board up your house and then head to the western side of Florida where the winds should be manageable.

Florida (vs Northern Colorado) and USF (at UConn) also have cancelled their weekend games.

Miami is going to be hammered with this storm. The U is likely to be shut down for weeks and the students dispersed everywhere. This was the correct call. Tough for AKST....I expect they will still get paid and not have a loss on their record this season.

Students rode out Andrew in the Dorms at U Miami.

"Freshman orientation was supposed to begin at the University of Miami on Aug. 24, the day Hurricane Andrew smashed through the area. At the university's main campus in Coral Gables, the winds shattered windows, tore off roofs, uprooted trees and stranded more than 4,000 students and their families inside dormitories. The university's buildings were not damaged structurally, but for a few days the students and their families were without regular food or water.

"Those people who were on campus have survived, and our spirits are high," said Edward T. Foote 2d, university president.

While damage is being repaired and the campus cleaned up, most students have returned home. The semester will end as scheduled on Dec. 18, but examinations will not be given until after the Christmas holiday, university officials said.

University of Miami students were moved to the bottom first six floors of the university's 12-story dormitories. When the winds were at their strongest, people were brought into meeting rooms and common areas away from exploding windows. "
