MAC West is having a big day today. Could go 5 - 1 with the loss to MSU (no sin).
And Kent manages to squeak one out too, Toledo with an early lead versus Nevada as well. BG needs to pick it up against South Dakota though.

Looks like that's not going to happen.

We have an actual passing threat at QB now with Santa since Graham is out with an injury.

We probably have a WR on the roster that is a better QB than either of them lol.

The Factory is churning out a winner! Congrats to the Eagles, glad to be proven wrong in the pick 'em.
At some point, an "Official 2018 Coaching Search Thread" will likely need to be started on the EMU board. A guy who turns EMU into a winner will be noticed.
A good problem for them to have.
How many years in a row has a MAC team beat the Big Ten now?

Yes, that thought has passed through my mind.
The only good thing is that CC is not a job-hopper who changes jobs as soon as he can. He tends to stay at a school for many years.
I believe he is very happy at EMU. Doesn't seem like the type of person who lives in a multi-million dollar mansion, has a 100K car, etc.

Not to be thay guy, but every MAC coach who gets hot leaves. For some reason schools think their guy is "different". Kelly, Jones, Babers, Fleck, Gill, etc etc. if EMU does well this year, CC will be gone by 2018 or 2019. It's just the way it goes.
I remember last year WMU fans screaming "Fleck will stay bro he's different". Why would any coach stay at a school for 1/3 of the salary?

RE: 2017 MAC Football Pick 'Em -- Week 2
I didn't watch our MSU game (thank god). But from reviewing the recaps and threads, we are clearly a country mile in putting together a solid passing game. Just no chemistry between QB and WRs whatsoever.
No offensive points, surprising given our production at USC.
Last week there was the team party at billionaire Alec Gores' house, visits by Terry Crews, a big tailgate function at USC's basketball arena. I was in LA for our USC game, it had a "bowl game" vibe to it all.
[an excuse, I know...] So I think there was some hangover effect from that trip. Not physically - young athletic guys can shake off jet lag and some dehydration within 7 days. But mentally. We originally had Wagner scheduled for this past weekend, but switched weeks with MSU to help accommodate their bye week. I think a home Wagner breather would've been far better.

Yep, playing USC and MSU back-to-back isn't a good thing. And going 0 - 2 is tough for any team.

If Fleck doesn't stay, no one will stay. Fleck had the passion for the MAC and for WMU. But the allure of the Power 5 is great. I learned my lesson. CC will be gone in 1-2 years. Totally possible if they win the MAC this year. 2-losses is really all it takes.

Don't watch it. The Defense wasn't that bad, but the offense was some of the worst coaching I've ever seen.

The interesting thing I think people will start forgetting in a few years is how Fleck was essentially committed to staying at WMU until Gophergate hit and they canned their coach. Who knows how the Broncos would've done against USC and MSU if the Minnesota thing doesn't happen and he's still on the sidelines.

Fleck was committed to staying because WMU was offering him $30m over 10 years, while even at the near-$1m he was making and having his way & comfy, he wouldn't take a bottom-feeder B1G team for a little more, nor an AAC team for that much either. But a 9W B1G team offering him $3.5m a year -- that's why. Not going to happen very often to a MAC HC.
The game against USC would have been about the same. The MSU game probably much the same, but who knows, maybe a bit better by just a little thing or two to get the O going, Fleck inspiring the new young WRs and the new QB for extra practice time, etc (Fleck doesn't abide by all rulez to get things done). But I couldn't at all assume Wassink + WRs would have been that much better. Fleck didn't coach-coach, but more of an inspirational + motivating guy throughout, pushing to do everything possible, etc.

RE: 2017 MAC Football Pick 'Em -- Week 2
biggest difference in the 2 WMU games was their coaching. Lester and the staff had a great game plan for USC, executed trick and set up plays in key situations, focused on the run game and schemed a good blocking plan. Against MSU they had a nice little play script to start the game but seemed to be pretty much winging it after that. Plus, they didn't really commit to the run and ran a lot of pass plays for a passing offense that was struggling. They also missed an opportunity at the end of the half to throw the ball in the end zone and go for a TD. 8 seconds to go at midfield, run the hail mary play, protect the pocket with 7, have Phillips go deep with your 2 biggest WRs and try to get a TD or a penalty. As long as the QB throws the ball the half ends on that play. If you punt there's a bunch of things that could go wrong-snap, block, return, etc.. and MSU has a chance to score again (the punt was nearly blocked, btw). I don't get that move. Overall, I thought Lester looked like a HOF coach in game 1 and a rookie coach in game 2.

For sure. I remember watching as little by little the open Power 5 jobs were taken.
And then suddenly there's a vacancy for a 9-4 Big 10 team.
