There is no disadvantage since we both played on Thursday. I'm pretty sure this game gets moved. This hurricane is the real deal.
think about it...a lot of our fans will be mad as flights and hotels have been booked...time off requests have already been put in...lots of MEMPHIS fans may have to cancel their trip if the game gets moved.
I'm sure the 20 fans making the trip will survive. Nobody is playing football in a cat 4 or 5. Either way they would miss the game.
I couldn't care less as I'm not going...Thu or Sat, I'll still watch on TV...but I'm just explaining why you'll get push back from our online fans.
if Thursday evening means not playing in a hurricane...play it Thursday.
Nothing has even been decided. I'm sure espn is involved in the discussions too. The last thing ucf wants is to lose a Saturday night game for the record.
The problem is bolded above.
I totally understand UCF not wanting to lose a Saturday night crowd and gate. But ESPN will resist ANY change due to their schedule which is set months in advance.
There is no game scheduled by ESPN for Thursday, Sept. 7. The only game scheduled for Friday Sept. 8 is Oklahoma State at South Alabama at 800pm ET. Now, I have no idea what is on ESPN, ESPNU, etc. But without a doubt SOMETHING is on and whoever it is probably doesn't want to have it shifted.
So, the issues would be these (in no particular order):
1. What do the hurricane tracking forecasts show?
2. If the central Florida area is at risk on Saturday, is Friday sufficient enough to not only get the game in but allow citizens to start evacuating Saturday morning?
3. Or does it need to be a Thursday night game? Moving the game from Saturday basically ensures only about 50 TIGER fans show up during a weeknight game instead of the 250 - 500 that probably plan to attend on Saturday.
4.
KEY ISSUE - regardless of a shift to Friday or Thursday, will ESPN actually allow it? Contractually, the AAC is committed to this 800pm ET Sat. night game. I mention this because
this is what CBSCS threw in MEMPHIS' face last week when meetings were held to discuss the Harvey impact. Basically, the network controls any possible discussion on a change.
5. Is notice on Monday adequate time for ESPN to get all equipment, crew for the telecast, etc. to Orlando for the new date? If Friday is the only possible date, does the OSU-SA game get shuffled to the 800pm Sat. night slot? ESPN will NOT want to lose that audience.
6. Could OSU argue against shifting to Sat, possibly using the contract argument against ESPN? Why might they do this? Because OSU travels to Pitt on Sept. 16 for an 1100am ABC game and can use the extra day to prepare, etc.
Bottom line - I will be AMAZED if the game time is changed to Friday or Thursday. These networks simply can be hard core on their contracted games, dates, and times.
I think the game stays right where it is.
