Or if you want to live near bodies of water ocean, rivers, etc you must carry flood insurance so you mitigate the risk.

In Ohio we have people that get flooded fairly regularly along the Ohio, they rebuild on the us dime and get flooded again and rebuild again. If you want to live in areas that can flood carry flood insurance.

or, build on stilts....that architecture is littered on miles of coastline...

it's a simple solution....

however, people hate climbing stairs.....

RE: Hurricane Harvey
When I was a kid, you had the houses on stilts and the concrete block houses all along the Texas coast. But after a bad series of hurricane seasons in the 50s and Carla in 1961, there was a long time without a serious hurricane on the Texas coast and people forgot. For that matter, Harvey and Rita in 2005 are the only serious hurricanes to hit north of Brownsville since Carla, a period of 56 years. Allen did hit Brownsville in 1980 as did Bret, a small category 3 in 1999.

Yes, but it's unethical plain and simple. The presidency should not be a marketing gimmick...especially during a national disaster. At least it was before this clown came on the scene.

And you cannot deny that the right would be raising holy hell if this was Hillary doing the exact same thing.

We will just have to disagree that it is some sinister marketing ploy. I just don't buy that. You are giving Trump too much credit for even thinking of doing that.

Id be laughing at Hillary in a ball cap...nothing else.

Perhaps, but when he's basically built his whole life on marketing and his name, I don't see it as that much of a stretch.

There's still a certain standard I want to hold our presidents too...and I'm not willing to lower it yet I guess.

It's really disgusting the straws they grasp to just to make themselves feel better when in the end, they do nothing but make the man stronger and more and more likely to get reelected. When and if that occurs the STILL will have no clue as to how it could have happened, again.

Regardless VA, you really think that my and others attitudes towards him are really going to cause others to vote for him thereby assuring his re-election?

And if you think it makes me feel better to have to continually point out this crap along with his supporters hypocrisy makes me feel better, you don't really have a clue. Sorry.

And if he gets re-elected, trust me, I'll know exactly why. We've already experienced it once and won't soon forget. 03-wink

Yep, it was all the negativity that helped get him elected in the first place so no question it could happen again. It is true that usually after 8 years of one party rule the other party wins out, etc; however, the MSM and Trump haters were in full force before, during, and since the election. People were just sick of it and the election results bore that out. My guess is, and correct me if I'm wrong, but you are playing the race card with that last nugget in your reply above. Again, that is an excellent example of what people are sick of. Take it for what you will as I did not vote for Trump; however, it's plain as day to see why those that did did vote for him. And no, they are not all racist hillbillies, etc like the left likes to believe. It's not me that doesn't have a clue, it's the left that continues to do what lost them the election in the first place.

I think you make too much of what you think people were sick of. Let's not forget that Hillary actually won the popular vote so the notion that America was sick of this, that, or the other is just not accurate.

FFS, there is no national popular vote. I still don't get why that is so hard to understand. Yet another reason people are sick of the left. Look, Trump won and there was a reason(s) and no, racism was not the main driver of his election no matter what the MSM or left continues to assert. Maybe it was that Hillary was just that bad of a candidate. Trump won, Hillary lost and the left STILL has not figured out why. Continuing to ignore that why may cost the the next election. It's cost them several State races so far. Dems need to bolster their ranks and get a decent candidate, if not, Trump is the least of their worries.

Completely. Ridiculous. 01-wingedeagle

I was referring to the idiots who were fooled into voting for the clown...and they fall into two categories IMHO. Those who don't know much about politics but who thought he was going to somehow "fix" Washington and those fellow Christians of mine who thought he was a Christian who was going to ban abortions, etc.

It's not hard to understand we get it. The point he's making is that there was no consensus saying that the country wanted him over Hillary.

And his current approval rating bares that out even if her getting 3 million more votes doesn't.

Was it Nashville that requires a 4 foot slab? Master planned communities should have almost as much drainage and retention ponds as land allocated for houses. And levees should be built several feet above the 100 year flood plain, since the 100 year plain is really like a 3-5 year plain now.

I live in Sienna Plantation in Fort Bend County. We have roughly 7700 homes and my conservative estimate is about 100 homes got water in their homes during Harvey. That's not too bad really compared to most spots. We have a 59 and 60 foot levee around the community but parts in the southeast section flooded because they're lower than other sections (54 to 56 feet elevation) and drainage areas next to the levees flooded. We probably had a pump failure too but the community won't admit that due to inevitable litigation issues.

Riverstone - the sister community to our west - probably has half as many homes. But they likely had 1000 or more homes flood. Their elevation is identical to ours. The major difference is they don't have nearly as large of a levee system. I think they're the same height. They just don't have enough of them and there wasn't enough area to hold all that water.

Honestly the sections of Houston in the 100 year flood plain should be razed, and re-built with equal amounts of housing and retention areas. But I doubt that happens. We're talking about maybe 20-25 percent of Harris County and an insane amount of homes.

If you are going to raze all the 100 year flood plain houses, Most of Meyerland and Bellaire would get razed along with a significant chunk of West U. and the Memorial Villages. Don't think that flies. It is kind of crazy to build right next to Addicks, though.

Rebuilding in those areas should mandate homeowners, developer and renters carry flood riders in their insurance policies. It is that simple.

I'm fine with mandating flood insurance. But at the same time, I don't want the LID's of the world to be charging a 1.5 percent tax on your home every year. The average home price in my community is at least $300K. Multiply 4500 x 7700 (homes) and that's 34.5 million dollars the local LID is collecting every year in taxes for levees which failed.

Let's not forget that Hillary actually won the popular vote so the notion that America was sick of this, that, or the other is just not accurate.

and let us remember, no President has ever been elected based on popular vote and no future president will ever be elected based on popular vote. 07-coffee3

I still don't know whether or not she actually won the popular vote.

...or whether Russia hacked the voting results of Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania thereby giving all those states to trump.

As long as we're suspending reality I guess that's fair game too...

Dude, this thread was derailed by Superfly in Post #7.

Move along.

P.S.: Most here are entirely capable of discussing two things at once.

Hey, I'm just following the Dems' and MSM's lead.

Talk to them about suspending reality.

No...nice try...you're suggesting that 3 million people voted illegally. I imagine you have some proof of this, right? Mind sharing it?
