Man that was emotionally almost an over-the-top experience for him and the other players.
Scholarship, Lions game, jumbotron, cheerleaders ( ), etc.
Bob W. will probably post that C.C. should also have given out scholarships to the Lions' cheerleaders. ;-)

One thing folks can learn is that this type of publicity is much, much better than spending money on marketing.
There were 50K fans at Ford Field last night who saw it plus whatever coverage on media, social media, etc.

EMU Football at the lions preseason game
I was at the game and they played the EMU fight song over the speakers. You would be surprised how many people could be heard singing along.

Dear vannzee,
Good to hear that. I could hear the fight song in the background of Coach Creighton speaking and giving the scholarship, and was wondering how it would be received by the people at the game. Nice to know.

One other thought:
It was a great night for the EMU FB players. It must have been one of those memorable days in the life of a student/athlete.

I don't recall the exact number, but I thought I heard Coach Creighton say from a different interview that EMU has over 180,000 alumni in the local/regional area. The fans will come back with winning...... let's win the MAC!

This data is a little old (2010) but is in the ball park (I assume the number increases every year as the are more graduates than those who die):
"Eastern Michigan University has more than 145,000 living alumni, more than 100,000 of whom still reside in Michigan."
One can get the info and reference from Wikipedia.
Found this on the EMU website:
"With over 165,000 living alumni, we encourage involvement through volunteer and networking opportunities, "

How is your D Lineman looking with the Leos?
They already lost a starting DE for the year. :(

Was at the game too - sat near the team.
Spoke to a couple of the fellas (D'Marcus Moon and cant remember the other) - great ambassadors the for EMU. They are excited to get the season started.
The crowd really enjoyed the scholarship bit - great PR for the team and program.
CC has great instincts for that stuff in addition to coaching.

Indeed. If CC wasn't a CFB coach he could be really good in marketing, politics, sales, etc. He has a very outgoing personality and can connect effectively with people.
It is NO surprise that he was hired at EMU despite a resume which didn't have FBS experience.

Revisionist history. His seat was extremely hot going into last season. His record was as bad as it could be without getting fired and it definitely was a surprise when he was hired. The jury is still out but he showed some promising signs last season. This is an important season, hopefully he can continue to trend upward.

RE: EMU Football at the lions preseason game
No coach going into his 3rd season, at arguably one of the 10 worst programs in the country, is on the hot seat. He also had 100% support from his AD. Also had a defense decimated by injuries the prior year.
Complete rebuilds take at least 3-4 years. Only way the program gets above the 6-7 win ceiling is to recruit better and break ground on the facilities plan. If we rank at bottom of MAC again in this recruiting cycle, and the building plan is officially put off, we could very well fall back to a 3 or 4 win type season next year...........especially with a new, totally untested QB.
Could just as easily get a huge momentum boost with another bowl game, improved recruiting class, and official groundbreaking! At that point the ONLY question will be the QB.

And lets not forget he got a four year extension, stability in a program is underrated.

A big reason for the extension was for Creighton to have a lower buy out should he wish to leave, so while it is nice for EMU let's acknowledge that it does benefit him quite a bit as well.
