I'm all for ending abortion but how would we respond to the millions of unwanted babies?

That's a fair question and certainly problematic. However, human's should be afforded the expectation that said humans should have a chance to live their lives and work out the details as they progress through life.

The real effort should be to prevent unwanted pregnancies before they necessitate the need for abortion. Free birth control might go a long way towards that end. Perhaps as we near the point of a world inhabited by 10 billion people we should take a serious look at limiting the number of children a couple can have to 2 by some rational and humane means, although I confess I know of no such means at this time. It is admittedly complicated.

Ms Sanger agrees. It cleanses society of undesirables.

“Birth control itself, often denounced as a violation of natural law, is nothing more or less than the facilitation of the process of weeding out the unfit, of preventing the birth of defectives or of those who will become defectives,” Sanger wrote. —“Woman and the New Race,” 1920, Chapter 18: The Goal

“We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population,” Sanger wrote. —Letter to Dr. Clarence Gamble on Dec., 10, 1939

“I think the greatest sin in the world is bringing children into the world, that have disease from their parents, that have no chance in the world to be a human being practically.…Delinquents, prisoners, all sorts of things just marked when they’re born. That to me is the greatest sin—that people can—can commit,” Sanger said.

Iceland is the perfect example of this. They claim to have eradicated Downs Syndrome from Iceland. When in reality they haven't cured anything...all they have done is exterminate Downs Babies before they were born.

“It is a poverty to decide that a child must die so that you may live as you wish.” — Mother Theresa

I can say that kids who would be born into broken homes with no chance at a decent future are, for the most part, "undesirable."

It's perhaps a nasty thing to say but it's the truth.

Many important people who changed the course of history were born into broken homes.

Home many brilliant people who would have contributed to the betterment of humankind ended up never being born?

Abortion became legal in the U.S. in 1973, 44 years ago. At just slightly more than 1 million babies killed each year that's roughly 50 million people who never drew their first breath.

Fifty million different personalities and intellects which never gave thought to making the nation and world a better place.

Fifty million lost opportunities.

Require as a prerequisite, implanted contraception for anyone(male or female) on public assistance.

Make adoption less intrusive, less expensive and easier for potential adoptive parents.

Initiate a national campaign to educate people not only in contraception and safe sex but also stress.... responsible behavior.

This would be a start.

Comfortable people don't become great. People driven by a need become great. I think you would find a lot higher % of "great" people who grew up lower middle class than who grew up rich or upper middle class. And a lot of poor people as well. Certainly in most sports (not so much golf & tennis), there is a much higher % of great athletes who grew up poor.

One gubmint program I could get behind would be free contraception for everyone.

And as badly as I hate this idea it might be effective; forced sterilization for anyone who has birthed or sired 2 kids. I have a worthless pos ex step-son who has fathered at least 5 children by 2 different mothers who has never paid one dime to support any of them and he's not even out of his 20's. Hell, he is still legally married to the mother of his first two girls.

Biggest thing would be ending the socialist state. Once people were no longer dependent on government they would go back to the way they used to be. Working, married and prosperous in the middle class. People CAN afford their own children. All those poor children supported by the state are the result of the state.

We have a lot of free contraception now available. My wife runs our local health department. They give out brown paper bags that include a dozen condoms to anyone that requests them free of charge. Every health department in NC does this. I don't know if this is done in every state.

It already exists... Every local health department pretty much can give away free contraceptives to the general public. Heck, I know this was available in Mississippi... and considering most of you consider 'Sip a backwards state.. if they do it, I'm pretty sure everyone else does.

Not just no.. but hell no. Again, you're heading down a slope that I don't EVER want to... (again, see china and their one-child policy)

Im not for forcing contraception on anyone. I am for making implantation a prerequisite for receiving public assistance. If you are financially strapped enough to need help from the taxpayers, then you for sure do not need to bring a child into that situation. We have no way to get you off the government dole if you are fathering or having more children. That only makes your situation worse.

So would you rather continuing to use abortion to curb a population explosion? I did say "as badly as I hate this idea". Contraception and condoms don't seem to be working, which goes against the idea of free contraception for all, I know.
