Pitt QB Ben Dinucci listed as a possible transfer to JMU.
Didn't watch any of Pitt's games this year. All I know is that they sucked pretty hard for most of the year. Is Dinucci good enough to hold a scholarship open for?

Meh...Don't think he'd be a slam dunk. One P5 offer and the rest were schools we'd mop the floor with.

We just hand a handful of posts glowing about a guy we "stole" from Furman. Obviously one shoe doesn't fit all (and this very well could be the exception) but in general, I'll take the recruit with one P5 offer over the recruit that committed to a 3-8 FCS team.
This could build into a similar storyline as Schor/Connor Mitch. A quality back-up in place to take over the reigns before an FBS transfer comes in to challenge the home grown talent which ends up being VERY beneficial for the team long-term. If DiNucci ends up at JMU, just keep him out of the laundry room.

RE: 2018 FB Recruiting
Houston and staff will thoroughly analyze and vette any potential QB transfers no worries. By accepting one, you potentially kill off another. IOW, I think we accept the Pitt guy or any other if and only if Houston and staff sees that guy coming in and competing for a starting job. Plus, we are kinda early in the transfer process. When these meaningless exhibition games + recruiting signing days are over, there may be others who are of more interest to our staff.
We are fortunate to be in a situation where the coaches can be very selective. And, I highly doubt the coaching staff gives a rat's testicle about who offered when the potential transfer was in high school, what some rating service says or how many stars they gave, or whether he had a P5 offer or not, etc.

Do we have any sort of fax-cam or anything like that for tomorrow's early signing period? Imagine it might just be social media announcements.

We are historically, but with the new signing date starting tomorrow, scholarships are going to be locked up earlier. Might not make a difference this year but I see more transfer decisions being made prior to bowl games (vs. after) in the future.

RE: 2018 FB Recruiting
That is possible regarding seeing more transfer decisions earlier. We'll see.
A couple of other things Houston & Staff must consider with these transfers...
1. Balancing acceptance of transfers with signing out of HS. If a talent like Vad Lee comes along to fall in your lap (starter, legit reason for wanting to transfer...in his case wanting a better system, no attitude issues, not running away from a challenge, etc.), then you obviously take him. OTOH, while all scholarship players including signees in HS must understand there will always be talent recruited behind them, it can stymie your HS recruiting if they (HS kids) start seeing your program as one that will value transfers ahead of your development/opportunities.
2. Houston stated recently he gets multiple calls every week from kids seeking out potentially transferring to JMU. Some of these guys are running away for various reasons. Some have legit reasons. Some not so much. It is a good situation to be in with interest flowing in, but again the staff has to be very selective in what is driving the transfer candidate. Some guys enjoy the recruiting process more than working hard to earn their time. And some, not many mind you, I believe were so enamored with the attention brought on by the recruiting process when in HS, they want to re-live it via the transfer process. These prima donas can be avoided.

Multiple twitter posts are confirming Ben Dinucci headed our way. He has also posted “Go Dukes”, so seems legit.
I trust our coaching staff know what they are doing, and will find a way for him to contribute to the team.

He also changed his twitter background to the JMU athletics logo, FWIW.

No such thing as too many solid QB's. May the best man win.
So if this pans out, we'll have
1 r-Jr
1 - Jr
1- r-Fr
1- Fr
Not a bad distribution actually.

I'll bite. I don't have a clue about the laundry room reference.

RE: 2018 FB Recruiting
Jamari Currence: "Jamari is an extremely talented secondary player from one of the top programs in the state of South Carolina. He's going to be an early enrollee and will be here for the spring. We expect him to compete for playing time during spring ball."
Um. Wow. With two of the top corners in all of FCS returning next year, plus Oliver (and Tutt getting healthy) this is pretty high praise. We'll have a bunch of seniors and no juniors next year, so the current group of freshmen are going to be in a dogfight with the incoming guys to take over CB when the likes of Moreland, Robinson, Tutt, and Oliver graduate (my god...that group of CBs).
Good to see some big linemen in there. Can never have enough big athletic guys on the front. Wondering if Painter will stay at TE or transition to OL or DL.
Looks like a very good early signing group!

A previous, now departed backup QB broke his hand partway into the season and the listed cause was that it was done while moving a washing machine.

Oh, I thought it was a frig. If I'd known it was a washing machine, I would've probably gotten it.
