The main reasons are to get people on campus and to control revenue. I wouldn't compare Memphis to Vandy because they are dissimilar situations. The comparisons to UCLA, USC or even Miami or USF make more sense. Playing off campus is not a big deal if you're in control of your game day experience . Few know that NC State plays off campus because they own the stadium and arena. It doesn't seem like much will change for Memphis as there is nothing forcing the hand of university leadership unlike SDSU or GSU. Unless U of Memphis leadership were to say, you know what we need to build an OCS or you know what we need to approach the city about taking over day to day management of the LB and faigroumds, chances are very great that you will be playing in the LB for many years to come.

we also don't have a 'primary tenant' to worry about as there is no NFL team...the Liberty Bowl folks need Memphis football to justify renovations and upkeep. Moreover, the Liberty Bowl game is held after our regular season is over, so no competition there.
So definitely more of a UCLA or USC situation.
