They found out the last time that basketball is meaningless when the big boys are trading playing cards.

Demonstrate you're committed to the sport as a major FBS institution?

That's what it's ALWAYS been about in the Big Ten, at least. That's why this almost reads like a Big Ten mandate. They put this stuff on Penn State AND Rutgers during their vetting periods. Penn State had to build Bryce Jordan Center because the coaches were screaming at the AD's and presidents that they didn't want to play in Rec Hall (though it's just fine for other Big Ten sports...?), and Rutgers was supposedly told to commit to an OCS rather than sourcing games to the Meadowlands. And, there's the "Penn State hates Pitt" arc against Pitt's consideration over the years, the use of Heinz over their own stadium was supposedly held against them.

Yeah, Kansas plays in a dump...but, if you're spending that much just to renovate the current venue, there's something else going, it seems.

OH YEAH ... MISSOURI!

Missouri's the bigger state, school, and more highly esteemed than either Nebraska or Kansas.

But Missouri doesn't have a legacy program, and the others do. Football may drive the bus, but Kansas basketball puts them well ahead of others. A higher ceiling.

Also, keep in mind how Kansas played its cards during the moves at the turn of the decade. Kansas didn't take departure money, gave money to Texas and Oklahoma to keep the peace, and would have moved as a bloc with other northern members to the Big East if it came to it, while also being the subject of speculation there was something going on between them and other Big XII North schools talking to the Big Ten and PAC-12.

Missouri wasn't so graceful.

everyone in the Big 12 got an equal share of the exit fees paid by CU and NU

A&M threatened to sue to get an unequal share and UT and OU declined to take an unequal share and then A&M said they were leaving so it did not matter

and everyone in the Big 12 shared equally in the money left by A&M and MU as well

there were no unequal shares

Well, let's split the difference and say that Kansas was willing to give up money to keep others in. So, they wouldn't look like they were taking from some and instead giving it to others.

The point is...optics. Kansas acted diplomatically. That's good if you don't think you fit the mold of one of these other major conferences. Kansas made allies in what were otherwise messy splits.

Calm down now?

When Ohio played at Kansas last year the reported box score was 28,467.

There may be more actual fans in Peden this year with the game in Athens. I know because I will be at that game.

Kansas looks like it plays in a MAC Stadium and is doing 1 for 1's with MAC schools.

What happened to Carrier Dome's $300 million renovation? Is $300 million the standard fee for football stadium renovation these days?

Agree, that's kind of sad. Might be the only P5 with a track.

I think Washington had one before the latest renovation?

We do -- Anschutz Pavilion. But it is shared and not near the stadium (near the housing instead).

There are two easily-observed outdoor practice fields near Memorial Stadium; my guess is that the new indoor facility will be put there, and will allow practices without "spying eyes."

Last time I checked, Duke (Wallace Wade Stadium) still had a running track as well.
