Big Ben McDonald showing off his intellectual chops by making a professional wrestling analogy.

Best effort of the regional thus far. Very nice game.

We survive. A pretty strong line of storms just east of Baton Rouge. I have no problem if they slide a bit to the west.

Great victory -- so who pitches tonight other than Otto?

I might be the only one, but I don't mind McDonald that, that much. I think he brings an interesting pitcher's perspective and though his redneck persona is tiresome at times, what do you expect from a guy from South Louisiana.

To know it's Rice University, not University of Rice.

The line to the east is probably not going to move west. But my weather in motion forecast shows the line that's now around Opelousas/Lafayette getting to Baton Rouge about 8:30 and hanging around until midnight. That would be pretty good.

He can be insufferable when LSU is playing, but I can't fault the guy for getting a sweet gig if the producers want him. It doesn't hurt his prospects that 90% of the fans watching those games will be LSU fans. If the committee ever sends another big school to Baton Rouge, like a Texas or an Oklahoma, he might be asked to tone the homerism down a notch or at least get paired up with a complement from the other team, but for as long as the opposition is [Third Tier State University] or [Small Private School], ESPN has every incentive to keep him. If they have to play a team like that, though, it'd probably be on ESPN2/U and might be an entirely neutral crew.

Agree, was going to post the same thing. I have a feeling I will like him less in our game (hopefully games) against LSU.

He's terrible when LSU is playing. Doesn't help that I hate LSU.

Not an excuse. McDonald is getting paid to cover the regional. At a minimum, learn the school names. There are only 4. How hard could that be?

I would start Moss or Kravetz, and then have Otto ready early if it's worth it. Maybe they'll think about Esquivel but I don't think I'd start him.

Three straight regional finals for Rice. Yes, we've dropped off some from our glory days but I still think Coach Graham has been one of the top postseason college baseball coaches in NCAA history.

Good game Owls. Way to go pitching Kendal and Dane.

I like Benny Mac's commentary, and I am by no means an LSU fan. I enjoy the old boy perspective. College baseball is largely an old boy sport anyway. The average college baseball fan is hardly poring over the NYT Review of Books. I recall last year he was laying on a lot of praise for us in the regional.

That's funny. A lot of people I know would say the same thing about Texas. And you would both be wrong.
