RE: Liberty to announce 2018 schedule Sat and future FBS games
Very nice and hope we still get a mid-season bye. There was some mention of schedule re-arranging during our AD Q & A on Facebook. The above shows New Mexico State on 11/24, which was the slot for an FCS game. We have a mid-season bye on Oct 13. Guess we were able to do some re-arranging for Liberty. Perhaps the at FIU game on 9/15 is being move and 9/15 will now be a home game. Would like having Liberty home on 9/15 and move at FIU to 11/24.

Wake Forest and Army will be coming to Lynchburg in 2025 and in 2021 respectively. Expect ODU and BYU to have a regular series with Liberty in the future. There are a couple P5 schools that they are talking with regarding 2 and 1 and home and home deals.

That's a pretty good schedule to start off with.

How much did all that cost?

Idaho should have went Indy. Would have had no problem filing schedule.

2018 isn't a compliant schedule. So 2018 is transition year 1 and 2019 the second year?

I doesn't matter what it cost, if you've got the money.

I totally agree. I think Idaho will regret the drop down.

We don't know that for sure - Rabonchild has a good point a few comments above, that Liberty might be paying money or foregoing some of the moneys a G5 team would otherwise get, in order to get enough FBS home games. If that's so, then this schedule is something that Idaho couldn't afford.

Even if these deals are a bit worse for Liberty than they typically are for G5 teams, it's something that Liberty can easily afford because the school's bank accounts are overflowing with money. That financial advantage, coupled with the fact that Liberty's geographic location is much more advantageous than Idaho's in terms of having several times as many FBS teams within a few hundred miles, means that it is far easier for Liberty to make FBS indy schedules than it is for Idaho...

... or for NMSU. Note on the Liberty schedule posted above, if that's correct, NMSU is playing Liberty twice in 2018, which is a red flag for NMSU. If NMSU is forced to schedule a transitioning team twice in the same football season, then NMSU is probably having a very hard time building compliant FBS schedules.

RE: Liberty to announce 2018 schedule Sat and future FBS games
There are more independents now that when the Belt gave them the boot. UMASS, NMSU, and Liberty would have been three teams they could have scheduled on the regular. I feel for them, their destruction of Colorado St. was one of the most enjoyable games of the bowl season for me. It was a little bittersweet though, knowing they are dropping down.

Well, if the Wasatch front has to experience an earthquake sometime in the next 100 years, I now know which day I'd choose.

Optimist in me says they were holding open a scheduling slot for Idaho. This seems unlikely because NMSU needs to look for #1. OTOH, Idaho remaining FBS would be very helpful for NMSU in the long term.

RE: Liberty to announce 2018 schedule Sat and future FBS games
Idaho, NMSU, and Liberty could have fillled a third of each other's schedules for 2018 and 2019 if push came to shove. They could have played their home-and-home series over the last six weeks of the season. One of the three could take their SEC whooping in November during one of the open dates in "conference" play. Liberty would have then needed only one more FBS home game for 2018 and then two more for 2019.

I haven't seen anywhere that Rutgers and BYU are playing or that you have a H&H with Virginia....

A BYU poster said on another thread that BYU is doing a 1 and done with Liberty, not a series. I still haven't seen proof of the Wake H&H....

This is a pretty horrible schedule (a home and home in the same year?). But I cant help but be impressed they were able to cobble together an entire schedule in barely 3 months.

I don't like that so many eastern schools are adding FBS football. It's going to effect ECU getting H&H's with ACC schools like in the past. I won't even get into Recruiting
5 new area FBS teams:
App St: Has played or scheduled ACC teams including Miami, Wake & UNC

Old Dominion: Has played and scheduled Wake, UNC & Virgina Tech (3 home games with VT)

Charlotte: Home games with Duke, UNC and Maryland

Liberty: Home games with Virginia and Wake

Coastal Carolina: no one yet
